Description
Founded in 1784 by Jean Baptiste De Bruin and still a family brewery to this day; known as Brouwerij Schelfaut until 1919, when the name was changed to Brouwerij Bios by Paul Van Steenberge, who became the head of the operation in 1922. Currently operated by his great-grandson Jef Versele (since 1998). Underwent many technical upgrades and expansions since then, most notably in 2017 when new buildings were installed and production capacity was significantly increased.

Nose of grains, malt, cocos, a sweet smell that is characteristic for the brewery; later some citrusfruit notes too, and other yeasty aromas. Colour is dull (yeast somewhat in suspension) orange. Very fine, slightly irregular white head, quite stable. Sweet taste, with typical fruity, orangey-bitter surrounding. Like it or loathe it - I could do with a little less sweetness. It is not cloying. Retronasal gets notes from orange-filled chocolate. Definitely alcohol in the mouthfeel, reasonably full-bodied. The taste keeps evolving, in the aftertaste, the flavours turn to some kind of fruit-liqueur, quite pleasing. To be honest, this brewery gives me the creeps for its unending label-story. Pierlala is a labelbeer for the town of Ursel, probably Augustijn. But, as the hands are shown, there isn't much wrong with the beer itself. You could get much worse...

Ruby coloured. Impressive head, doesn't last long, though. Somewhat yeasty aroma. Somewhat fruity flavour. Alcohol is well hidden. Warming finish. Pretty much a Standard-Belgian-Strong-Ale.

Golden color. Nice malt aroma; hint of apple. Powerful, dry taste; spicy when warmer. Smoother and less dry than a Duvel, but similar, less aggressive.

Esterz maryipan and aprocot aromas. Cloudy golden, too much gunk floating around - the bottle has been upright for weeks, head rather weak too. Comparantly mild, I still get applejuice, apricot and almonds in the taste and a little bit glue. Creamy full mouthfeel.

In the beginning there were just sparkles of the typical tripel-taste. But after a while the flavour and especiallyt the palate became very good.

Malt nose. Full bodied with lots of malt and medium alcohol heat, but mine had some odd type of ''off'' flavor

[Keg] Red amber color, with a thin persistent collar. Good and easy to drink, because of some dryness and astringency (and a light oak note), but not impressive.
