Location: Draft at Beer Culture, 8/11/14
Aroma: It has a solid aroma that is mostly coffee/roast, soruness is minimal
Appearance: It pours a murky looking orange-amber color with an off-white head
Flavor: Sourness comes through in the flavor, and with the coffee makes for an odd/not great mix
Palate: It has a fairly soft feel, an average carbonation, and an okay finish
Overall Impression: This is a cool experiment, and I applaud them for their effort, but the overall beer just doesn't really work for me. I gotta give bonus points for the effort though.

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours cloudy yellow with a white head. Aroma is lemon, acidic notes, and wheat, of course. Taste is rather sour. It is not too citrusy. Minimal sweetness mixed in. This is a good Berliner. Nothing out of the ordinary.

The Sampler, Bushwick tap: Pours brown with a beige head. Aroma is somewhat fruity, plenty of caramel, and a little bit of hoppiness. There is a strange fruitiness mixed with a slight sour note that you wouldn’t really expect in a doppelbock. It is a little sweet. It is not bad. Pretty weird.

A golden ale with a thin white head. In aroma, light powder caramel malt with light mineral notes, pils like. In mouth, a light caramel malt with grassy hops, mineral notes, ok. On tap at Bacon and beer Classic.

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours golden with white head. Aroma is pine, grapefruit, and sugar. Taste is a surprisingly good mix of cream ale and IPA. This is not an IPA with cream ale elements. This is actually more of a cream ale with IPA hop elements infused into it. All in all, this was interesting and pretty well done. Good job Newburgh. Way better than your IPA.

Keg at the Pony Bar UES - NYC. Pours perfectly clear amber-gold with a creamy, off-white head. The nose has some dried berries, dry bread. Medium sweet flavor with further dried berries, some metal, leaves, caramel. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Moderately sweet on the finish with more dried berries, slight leafy bitterness, metallic edge, doughy bread, plums. Meh. Not terribly drinkable.

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a creamy head. Aroma is chocolate malts with a hint of spruce. Taste is certainly unique. Interesting chocolate tastes. At first it is sort of like vanilla with chocolate and the distinct spruce is hard to find, but on certain sips, the finish has a very distinct spruce-full taste. Pretty good.
