Description
PROGRESSIVELY OLD SCHOOL
We make craft beer with a throwback approach. Through a combination of time-tested brewing/blending methods and modern practices, we create beer that is complex, thought-provoking, and above all delicious.
AN ALE PROJECT
We focus on truly slow beer – mainly Farmhouse Ales and Saisons in our wild brewery and lagers on our clean production side – with a passion for experimenting with other wild and traditional styles from Imperial Stouts to IPAs to Dutch Kuits.
ROOTED IN FAMILY
The name Birds Fly South is a nod to founders Lindsay and Shawn Johnson. For the last 22+ years, they lived the Coast Guard life, migrating across the country. Their family, their flock, was always looking to find their back to the south. Once they landed in Greenville, Shawn’s final station, they knew they had found home.

Draught at The Cask, Richmond: pours clear gold with white head. Aroma is funky, basement, lightly spicy. Taste is pretty sour, somewhat acidic. Delicate and gentle. I like it.

16 oz can poured, sent over by Jow. Thanks!! Pale golden pour, tons of pillow foam head and lacing that began upon opening the can. Cool, inviting aroma, with floral and melon notes. Pretty crisp front, a lot of the same melon and soft floral character with the flavor. Very easy drinking, and a quite flavorful pils here. Very much enjoyable.

(Draught at Beer Tempel, Amsterdam, 26 Aug 2019) Clear red colour with pinkish white head. Fruity, slightly sourish nose with cherries, blackberries and grapes. Fruity taste with notes of cherries, raspberries, vanilla and a mild acidity in the finish. Medium body, dry. Tasty and well balanced with a fresh red wine tartness. Quite nice.
