Bottle sample @ Quintessence 2016.

Quintessence 2016. Light hazy golden with thin white head. Very fruity hoppy nose. Sweet grain, vegetal and fruity hops. Light nutty sour, cheesy. Light sour on light sweet base with medium bitterness. Thin body, slightly watery feel, low carbonation. Nice, more IPA-ish than sour-ale. --- Beer merged from original tick of Agullons Barrica Blend N° 01 on 21 Nov 2017 at 21:45 - Score: 7. Original review text: 3.8

Draft @ Moeder Lambic Original. Dark hazy orange, big creamy off-white head. Nose is sweet malt, sugar & low grass. Taste is boring sweet malts, low grass, big sugar, hay, touch caramel. Thick malts & sugar body. Okay, nothing wrong with this one but it is rather boring & non-engaging.

Bottle sampled at Quintessence. Slight hazy golden with small head. Lots of herbs on the nose and sweaty cheese, sweat, soft lactic notes, grains and dried herbs. Wow this is quite sweaty. Light sweet and bitter with light tart touch. Under medium bodied with quite some carbonation. 3.3 bottle at RGESG16 less sweaty and more farmyard. Not bad!

750 ml. bottle sampled @ Quintessence 2016. Reddish amber with no head. Nose is heavy on butter overly so with low red grape. Taste is weird butter with some bitter leaves, low carbonation, little grape, very bitter butter. Meh, least favorite of the Agullons beers tried at Quintessence. Just too much butter. Overal not the biggest fan of Agullons in general.

750 ml. bottle sampled @ Quintessence 2016. 2013 Vintage. Hazy golden, little off-white. Nose is nice funk, low sour stone fruit & some barn. Taste is a bit weird, rather mineral, lightly sour stone fruit, fizzy, low sweetness, no butter unlike some of the others, low sourness. Age has helped to clear out a lot of weird elements here, I would guess, best one I had from these guys at the festival despite the very low ratings here (36 & 4 respectively currently), bad batches etc. might be a play here. Strange but enjoyable.

750 ml. bottle sampled @ Quintessence 2016. Clear golden, little white bubbles. Nose is sour milky (less so than the regular version), low vinegar, oily, low bitter, touch puckering. Taste is oddly sweet with quite a bit of butter, tastes almost like sweet buttery lambiek, low stone fruit, biscuit, some apricot & beach, lactic. Body is buttery, strange not sure what is going on here given the amount of butter. Okay still & preferable to regular version.

750 ml. bottle sampled @ Quintessence 2016. Aged Barrica if I understand correctly (for one year) – aged on barrels blended with fresh Barrica. Not sure about barrels used, guy manning the stand wasn’t from the brewery & didn’t appear to be familiar with their beers. Very hazy orange, little creamy off-white head. Nose is sour, thick milky with some oak & vinegar . Taste is thick & milky, rotting fruit, stone fruit, milky yeast, weird spoiled stone fruit, low oak & good amount of Cava. Milky yeast body. Confusing & muted, less butter than some of the other beers based on Barrica, overall overly milky & odd. Not as bad as other said but not that great either. Liked the aged base beer more.
