Description
Burdock brewery set up shop in what used to be an old Portuguese chicken restaurant, and they transformed the space into an artist-driven bar/restaurant/music hall/microbrewery run by a group of musicians and music lovers. They offer a rotating list of clean pale ales, complex saisons, crisp pilsners, zippy sours, and beer-wine hybrids that are all brewed in house.

Clear golden pour, small white head. Aroma is very very grassy, with some light herbs and some pepper. Light melon and fresh cut grass. Nice mouth feel, solid carb. Finish is lightly bitter, with a big Green note note and some subtly spicy herbs and grasses. Pretty nice, but I was surprised the Nelson Sauvin didn’t empart more.

On tap at the Black Hoof. Slightly. Hazy yellow pour, small white head. Nothing much to look at..... Aroma is loaded with tropical fruit, and soft pine resins. Pineapple, and mango come to the fore. Mouth feel is watery and thin, with almost no bitterness. Finish is refreshing, and dry with more tropical hoppy goodness. A nice quaff.

Arguably the best pils. I’ve ever had. Big floral grassy, spicy notes with hint if lemon and lime zest with subtle tropical fruit. Carb and mouth feel are perfect. Finish is grassy, and hoppy with big Green hop cones notes and subtle tropical fruit and citrus zest and some light peppery spicy notes. Incredible stuff.... The malts still come through, pale crystal malts ate still evident and upfront. Great stuff.

Reddish-purple colour, with just a slight haze. Thin head. There's a touch of wildness on the nose, with a big vinous character. Grapey on the palate, with lean body, touch of sweetness in the finish, and the fruit comes in with a bit of tart juiciness in the finish.

Can from the discount shelf at Westhill Service Station. It pours lightly hazy straw yellow with a medium fluffy white head. The aroma is fresh, clean, donut peach, yellow plum, nectarine, twist of citrus, lemon curd and doughy white bread. The taste is quite crisp, pleasing bitterness, clean, pithy, zesty, lemon - lime, candied citrus peel, straw grass, yellow plum, peach, floral accents, slight darkness and crackery malt with a dry finish. Average body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Pretty quenching and moreish. Decent.
