Handpull cask at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Light to mid-brown, translucent with a creamy off-white head. Caramel, polished wood and a touch of cola nut in the aroma. Spicy notes in the sweet taate, although it's neither particularly subtle nor balanced. A good dollop of bittering hop in the finish doesn't stop this beer from tasting too sweet and too artificial.

Aroma of roasted malt, milk chocolate, chocolate orange, dried fruits and touch of liquorice. Moderate sweetness, medium roasted bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Some dryness to finish, with lasting earthy, orange notes.

Half-pint, cask in fine condition at The Heart of Northumberland, Hexham. Shared with Finn. Clear nut brown body. Low beige head, spotty lacing. Inviting smell of dark berry skins and chocolate malts. Dark berry-fruits to the taste buds on a backbone of chocolate malts. Mid-sweet, rounded dark malty ending. Fine depth. Good drinking.
