Description
Sam and Maudeline Black are a husband and wife team who started their brewing company Blacks Brewery in 2013. This venture/obsession first began many years ago when Maudeline gave Sam a beer making kit for Valentines Day. What started as a hobby quickly developed into an obsession and thus through Sam’s passion and enthusiasm Blacks Brewery became reality. Living the dream since 2013! In 2015 the Distillery was added. We are Ireland's first co-located micro brewery and Distillery.

500ml bottle from Baggot Street Wines. Bright golden colour, white foamy head leaving lacing and grain, caramel in the aroma. Taste is sweet grassy, malt, caramel and grainy, with a berry hop note and some metallic bitterness. Light bodied, medium carbonation, dry tangy bitter finish. OK.

Pours light orange from the bottle. A thin, white, frothy head lingers. Aroma is pineapple, herbal, bready. Taste is mildly sweet, full of white bread and pineapple with mild caramel notes. Body is medium, lightly oily with watery notes, carbonation is soft. Refreshing on a warm, summer day in Ireland but fairly simple.

Draft at the brewery. Virtually black with a creamy, tan head. Chocolate, vanilla, and rum in the aroma. Taste is sweet to bittersweet. A dollop of rum, a hint of cherry syrup, and lingering smoke round out the finish. Overall: thick, boozy and interesting. Haven’t had much luck with rum aged brews till now but this one was good.

Draft at the source. Yellowish with a fizzy, foamy white head. Mildly fruity aroma: pineapple, a touch of apple vinegar. Taste is predictably sour. Not a lot of nuance. Medium bodied. Okayish.
