on draft @ AtG. Deep amber red color, finger of off white head, grapefruit, floral and toffee aromas. Big oily mouthfeel, very smooth until the hops kick in then its all bitter grapefruit and pine that lasts forever. Finish is incredibly long and bitter, did I say that enough....it has a long finish. Nice Imperial here at 9%, hides the abv very well.

Draught at Farringtons. Clean golden amber with a thin head. Tough beer this one, too tough for me. Intense hoppy bitter, if you are a hop head this is probably your thing.

500mL bottle from Blackrock Cellar. Debated whether to label this as a Blonde Ale or Session IPA, if someone disagrees that’s fine. Tough style to do well, what’s the difference between a Session IPA, Pale Ale, and sometimes a hoppy Blonde Ale, I’d love to know. Pours a clear pale amber, pillowy white head, aroma of citrus and floral hops, bready malts. Aroma is more potent than the flavor which is hoppy bitter with a solid malt backbone that cheats the bitterness somewhat.

Keg @ Salthouse, Galway [160414]
Amber, clear, thin white head, good lacing
Aroma - Sweet fruity malts, piney, soft hop resins, lots of sticky tropical fruits, sticky nectar like fruits
Taste as aroma, sweet citrus, sticky hop resins, lots of sweet fruity malts, booze well hidden, sweet tropical fruits, lots of sweet fruits
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, very oily, smooth, quite syrup like, lots of bitter hops to offset the bitterness but not quite enough - tbh it’s just rather a bit too sweet
Overall - I’m this beer could withstand beer could stand more ferocious hopping to reduce that sweetness a tad, but it’s still a really good beer

Bottle from Supervalu, Longford [080815]
Aroma of soft citrus, piney, soft zest, bit of grapefruit, sweet
Taste of dark malts, some creaminess in the malts?, zesty, some pine, bitter zest, not that fruity though, dark mellow roast, getting a hint of butterscotch in there.
Palate - Soft carb, medium body. Finish of bitter zest, not dry.
Overall - Moreish flavour, liked this. Got the right score now.
Bottle from Dicey Reillys [040414] 7/4/8/4/16 3.9
Pitch black, big frothy tan head
Aroma of grapefruit, slight floral note, citrus hops, good hoppy nose, some soft roasted malts underneath
Taste of grapefruit, nice zesty hops, soft dark malt background, some dark cocoa, complex, good stouty background, really good BIPA
Palate - Soft carb. medium body, good bitter zesty hops with dark quite sweet dark malt. Finish as main flavour with some more bitter roast coming thorough
Overall - I like my Black IPAs to be stouty and this certainly is...I want this on tap and certainly cask if possible. Excellent flavour for the 5% abv as Black IPAs are usually stronger than this

Bottle from Drinkstore [010414]
Golden, clear, big frothy white head, some lacing
Aroma of citrus zest, grapefruit zest, lots of citrus hops, sweet pale malts background
Taste of bitter zest hops, citrus zest, some grassy hops, plenty of hops in this, soft sweet pale malt background, not as fruity as aroma
Palate - soft carb, bitter zest palate, light sweet malt background. Finish as main flavour, long lingering considerably bitter zest
Overall - Decent Pale Ale, but taste not quite as good as the excellent aroma, less fruity than expected

Wow, impressive. Black with red highlighted pour into the pint glass. Medium size off white head, nice lacing on the glass. Big hop aroma, grapefruit, floral, juicy. Hops smack you in the face, some blood and metal flavors(tastes better than it sounds). Roasted coffee beans, sharp cheddar, bitter dark chocolate. Finish is long, mouthfeel is medium to thin. Fantastic interpretation of the style.

Different label, same abv, Pours a clear amber into the pint glass, good sized white head that was gone fairly quick, no lacing. Lovely juicy and chewy hop aroma such as Sierra Nevada PA. Taste was slightly lacking in character and body, but still very nice session ale, flavors are not hard hitting but are there and are very balanced and appetizing.

Bottle. Clean black with a thin head. Aroma is fruity roast. Flavor is light dry burnt malt with a very light fruity hop middle, long dry burnt base. Lovely balance, nicest black IPA I have tasted so far.
Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6.5
Draught. Hazy orange with a firm white head. Aroma is orange and grapefruit. Flavour is fruity bitter hop, grainy lingering dry bitterness. Good beer but a bit overpriced.
