Description
Sam and Maudeline Black are a husband and wife team who started their brewing company Blacks Brewery in 2013. This venture/obsession first began many years ago when Maudeline gave Sam a beer making kit for Valentines Day. What started as a hobby quickly developed into an obsession and thus through Sam’s passion and enthusiasm Blacks Brewery became reality. Living the dream since 2013! In 2015 the Distillery was added. We are Ireland's first co-located micro brewery and Distillery.

Bottle, 5%. Fruity aroma, slightly rotten. Almost black colour, seems clear. Stable tan head. The flavour is faintly fruity, but mostly roasted. Also a little bready.

Draught, 8.5% at 57 The Headline. Mild diacetyl aroma. Cloudy golden colour. Stable white head. The flavour has some paper, but not exactly diacetyl. High bitterness. Creamy flavour, a bit like some wheat beers. Funky. Perhaps infected.

[33cl bottle from the Beer52 box for March.] A pale straw coloured pour with a thick white head and medium carbonation; floral aroma with yeast and a little lemon; light grainy body with more yeast; and a gentle floral bitterness in the finish. A pleasant Brut IPA.

Given the strength of it this is a surprisingly mellow IPA. Bitter, hoppy citrus smell and it's a lemony hop flavour with the champagney quality from the yeast and a lingering dry finish. Not bad but doesn't have much kick from the strength.

On tap at Ammutsøn, Vienna. Clear pale golden, small off-white head. Aroma is yeasty, white grapes, pome fruit, notably apple or pear. Light spices, light grainy. Light to a moderate sourness. Fruity, very aromatic. Grainy background well expressed. No large funky notes, very down-to-earth. Lasting finish, dry with no puckering. Soft. Interesting.
