Cask. Deep brown body with a froth tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla, caramel. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/sticky texture, moderate carbonation. Taste of chocolate, coffee, light fruit. Enjoyable.

Cask pint at the brewery - marketed as “John Shaft” - anyway, I think the base beer of this is the best damn porter made stateside - the addition of chocolate doesn’t exactly enhance the experience, but it certainly is not a detriment, either - cacao compliments the malt and makes it a little sweeter than the base beer - the only downside is it cuts down on the character of the malt - still delicious.
