Bottle from Theatre of Wine, Greenwich. Mahogany coloured pour with a beige head. Raisin, lots of sweet spice and blackberry aroma. Has a spirit like quality. Flavours of caramel, sweet spice and a little coconut. Quite vinous. Sweet malt finish.

Draught at Brewdog, Stockholm. Cloudy golden, small head. Citris nose with red currant and limoncello. Mid sweet with clean mouthfeel and medium body. Richly hoppy with lots of citrus and tropical fruit. Basic, clean malt character and heavy carbonation takes the focus away from the hops. Really bitter finish. Superficial.

Bottle. Dark reddish amber with a beige head that lasts quite well. Woody, vinous aroma with dried fruit, vanilla. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Taste is full of dark fruits and some roasted grain, hazelnuts. Woody finish. Interesting. Could use a little more body. Would indeed go very well with duck.

Bottle picked up at ’Jacks’, Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon. Consumed at a wonderful house owned by the Blackwell family in Appleton, Oxon, Saturday 31st August 2013 Reddy brown in colour with a little haziness and an off-white head atop. Toffee and malty in the mouth with a slightly harsh twang also detected, some sweet citrus, but overall I am a little dissapointed. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov11 2.9

Draught at 3 Små Rum, Göteborg, on August 31, 2013.Hazy golden color, yellow head. Hoppy, citrus, caramel, fresh, tropical fruits, tangerine and blood orange scent. Hoppy, bitter, resin, some alcohol taste. Fresh herbal hoppy aftertaste. Medium to smooth mouthfeel, medium high to high bitterness.Fresh and fruity, especially the scent, the taste is more focused on bitterness and has more evident alcohol. Aroma close to 8, but taste close to 6 and overall perhaps a weak 14 to a strong 13.

Bottle: Nose is vinious, sour, lemon, but leading to powder, slight strawberry and then mango sorbet (thanks to the review below which picked that out for me). Very interesting. Taste is sour green apples, leading to straw, butter, cream and then a hint of raspberry, passion fruit, floral notes, peppery heat, and a short and shallow sour finish. Mouthfeel is full with a strange heat in the mid pallet. It’s a beer with a lot going on and the nose is great, but never quite lifts above the sum of it’s parts. Fundamentally the sour is not strong or developed enough, perhaps that will come with time, and the additions feel a little bit like novelty window dressing. It’s an enjoyable enough novelty, but it lacks depth.

Tap at Sheffield Tap. I’ve rated this fairly highly, but even after two glasses of it, I’m not entirely sure if I like it or not! Hoppy parma violets in a glass. Very floral, thyme maybe. Alcohol peeking through. Do I like it? I don’t know. Would I have it again? At the drop of a hat.

Bottle courtesy of nate2g, which leaked in my suitcaseon the way from New Zealand to DC, and consumed within 24 hours. Very dark brown color, massive tan head. Very nice aroma of burnt and smouldering charcoal and cocoa. Taste is bitter, unsweetened cocoa powder, and espressso pot left on the burner too long. Not bad.

Bottle from Corks of Cotham, Bristol. Poured a hazy copper in colour, with moderate carbonation and no head. Sweetish aroma, with floral hops, toffee and green herb aroma. Light mouth feel, with yeasty, peppery saison notes and a gentle finish. Had a pleasant, rustic edge that brought back distant memories of Blaugies, but could have done with more body.
