Description
Throwback Brewery is a small, inspired brewery dedicated to crafting delicious, farm-fresh beer & food from local ingredients. Our brewery and pub are located within a picturesque and meticulously renovated 1860s post & beam barn in North Hampton, NH. Our 12-acre farm- Hobbs Farm- includes a hop yard, young fruit orchard, kitchen & brewery garden, heirloom chickens, and a beer garden overlooking the field.
Given the greenery and peaceful setting of the farm, you would never know that we are conveniently located right off of Route 1 and less than three and a half miles from the beach!
Since we got started in a small warehouse space in July of 2011, our vision at Throwback has been and continues to be all about crafting beer from ingredients grown within 200 miles of us. With the opening of our restaurant in July of 2015 and the move to Hobbs Farm, we have committed to these same sourcing philosophies and love & care in crafting our food as we do our beer.
In our kitchen, everything is made from scratch using the freshest of local ingredients from surrounding farms and New England businesses. For example, the eggs in our Fried Eggs BLTs come from our farm, and all the bread is made from scratch in our kitchen using spent grain from our brewing process. We are proud to serve such fresh and tasty food (and beer!) to our family, friends, and to you, our great customers.
Cheers

Draught at the brewery, 9/16/17.
Obviously sporting real beets, it's bright, neon, blood red, as pictured. Our sample was initially hazy but cleared up quickly and became very clear with a rapidly fizzling, pink-tinged head.
The beet comes off as leather, earth and almost hibiscus, in the nose, with soft base malts adding light honey and white bread underneath. It, at least, takes the focus off of the ester and phenol profile, which otherwise provides typical bubble gum, clove and banana notes.
In the mouth it's initially fun, with lightly earthy, leathery, tart beet notes mixing with soft honey and spongey-like malt notes. Low, loose carbonation needs help and the beer slowly begins to fatigue with over-perceived sweetness.

Draught at the brewery on 9/16/17. According to the internet, this beer does not exist.
Lightly hazy, drab beige-tinted dull copper with a small, fairly well-retained white head atop.
Some rustic, almost sour-like grains in the nose with soft pepper and light clove behind it. Cereals and a touch of very dry, near astringent-like citrus come forward, as well. Not a whole lot going on in the nose, though; it's rather muddled from all of the grain and whatever is in solution.
Dry, pepery, perfumey and lightly bitter with lemon, light pledge, lots of cereal, corn and vanilla. Too much here that doesn't belong, even if there is some softness of texture and reasonable attenuation.

Taster pour at NH Brewfest. Appearance is dark, dark brown--virtually opaque--no discernible sparkle, beige-to-light-brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, light smoke. Taste is dominant smoke, with roasted malts. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin texture, average-to-lively carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, there's not much complexity here--just smoke and roast--but it is done well.

Taster pour at NH Brewfest. Appearance is hazy light brown with finger-width, creamy off-white head with some lacing. Aroma is mild, floral, herb, vegetal, somewhat oniony. Taste is quite bitter, scallion/onion. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin texture, average carbonation and dry, bitter finish. Overall, no sweetness here with strong bitter and a vegetal/oniony bent. Different but not for me.

16 oz can bought in NH. Hazy gold pour with a large khaki head and excellent retention. Good lacing. Hoppy nose. Soft, light hop flavor with a clean and smooth finish. Light citrus flavor, but i don't taste any salt. Very pale ale-ish.

8 oz. draft at the brewery. Orange in color with small off-white head. Very forward grapefruit citrus aroma, mild tropical fruits. Flavor is floral hop mixed with the grapefruit / tropical combo. Mild bready malts, with a hoppy bitterness balanced by biscuity malts. Alcohol was well hidden. Much better than I was anticipating. Nice!

8 oz. draft at the brewery. Slightly hazy yellow color, full fizzy head. Aroma is lots of tart citrus, grapefruit, lemon, and sulfur.
Flavor has a solid amount of tartness though out. Moderate amount of tart, juicy acid. For a guy who isn't into sours much, this was very palatable.

8 oz. draft at the source. Darker Clear copper color with head that died quick. Aroma is stale bread, caramel malt and mild spice. Overall this is a pretty classic example of the style and it went down without any issue. Malt showing some earth, mild bread and light toffee backbone with a very tame spice the back end. As you could expect from the style.

Taster pour at Powder Keg Beer and Chili Festival. Appearance is dark brown with massive 2-finger beige-to-light-brown head foamy with good retention. Aroma is light roast, herbal tea, cinnamon/cardamom spice. Taste is more tea than porter--hint of roasted malts but mainly weak vegetal tea. Palate is light bodied with frothy texture, soft carbonation and vegetal tea-like finish. Overall, if this had tasted as it smelled, this would have been amazing as it does seem to be a natural complement, but somewhere along the way it lost its porter-ness (and even its chai-ness) and became mainly about tea.

Taster pour at Powder Keg Beer and Chili Festival. Appearance is dark yellow with light sparkle, half-finger width light foamy head. Aroma is mostly hops--light citrus, herbs, with mild grains. Taste is dominant sweet fruit, mild herbs, floral, light citrus. Mildly bitter toward the finish. Hard to pin down but different from other DIPA. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin texture, soft carbonation and mainly sweet over bitter citrusy finish. Overall, the fruitiness is not tropical nor stone fruit--nor really identifiable--and it's not terribly complex, but is a nice change of pace.
