Associated Venue: Throwback Brewery
Established in 2011
Given the greenery and peaceful setting of the farm, you would never know that we are conveniently located right off of Route 1 and less than three and a half miles from the beach!
Since we got started in a small warehouse space in July of 2011, our vision at Throwback has been and continues to be all about crafting beer from ingredients grown within 200 miles of us. With the opening of our restaurant in July of 2015 and the move to Hobbs Farm, we have committed to these same sourcing philosophies and love & care in crafting our food as we do our beer.
In our kitchen, everything is made from scratch using the freshest of local ingredients from surrounding farms and New England businesses. For example, the eggs in our Fried Eggs BLTs come from our farm, and all the bread is made from scratch in our kitchen using spent grain from our brewing process. We are proud to serve such fresh and tasty food (and beer!) to our family, friends, and to you, our great customers.
Cheers

The appearance was a mostly black color with a foamy off white head that dissipated at a good pace. Moderate lace.
The aroma had some leather, smoke/ash, some roasted malts and a light earthy/grassy hoppiness.
The flavor lead with the leather to smoke/ashy sweetness. Some sweet meat. Moderate amount of roast came in somewhat underneath. Light aftertaste of the smoke hitting the finish in the same way.
The feel was about medium bodied with a good sessionability about it. Carbonation felt good and the ABV felt appropriate.
Overall, that’s a pretty good smoked beer. Don’t think it could compare to Alaskan’s, but hey, this is up there.

Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was a ruddy burnt amber color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a moderate pace. Light stringy lace.
The aroma had some roasted grain, somewhat floral and citrusy, yet a semi-pouncing spicy rye with some sweet tones coming through. Malt bill seemed nice and balancing.
The flavor had a nice blend of the sweet to the spice, taking the malts to the sweet and spicy nature of the rye. Nice floral and spicy quality in the aftertaste and finish.
The feel was almost medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Good carbonation and ABV felt appropriate.
Overall, nice rye beer or amber ale with rye in it, whatever this was supposed to be, just good all around.

Pours a black from a tap, big caramel aroma and flavor along with standard roasted maltiness. Good beer.

Pours a light straw from a tap. Big citrus aromas and flavor, kind of key limey, not much else going on, not much salt. But well-balanced and light. Good beer.

Pours a standard dark amber from a tap. Citrus and pine aromas are big, similar flavor with a too-sweet caramel backbone, kind of typical for most of the style IMHO. Good beer though.

Pours a hazy yellow from a tap, big bubblegum aromas settle more into the classic banana/clove hefeweizen. Good representative, nothing outstanding but certainly nothing bad. Good beer.

Pours a light amber from a tap, big tart sourness, very little cherry and a little wheat biscuit flavor, not much aroma. A little too tart without any additional rounding out in the mouth, but still a good beer.

On tap at the source. Hazy orange amber with a good sized long lasting bubbly white head. Spicy sweet bready maltiness with just a hint of berry and floral earthy hops. Pretty tasty light berry tartness.

Tap at the source. Dark brown with hints of ruby at the edges and a small creamy off white head dissipates quickly. Earthy roasty on the nose with a ton of vanilla character in it. I liked this a lot more than I thought I would.
