Description
Throwback Brewery is a small, inspired brewery dedicated to crafting delicious, farm-fresh beer & food from local ingredients. Our brewery and pub are located within a picturesque and meticulously renovated 1860s post & beam barn in North Hampton, NH. Our 12-acre farm- Hobbs Farm- includes a hop yard, young fruit orchard, kitchen & brewery garden, heirloom chickens, and a beer garden overlooking the field.
Given the greenery and peaceful setting of the farm, you would never know that we are conveniently located right off of Route 1 and less than three and a half miles from the beach!
Since we got started in a small warehouse space in July of 2011, our vision at Throwback has been and continues to be all about crafting beer from ingredients grown within 200 miles of us. With the opening of our restaurant in July of 2015 and the move to Hobbs Farm, we have committed to these same sourcing philosophies and love & care in crafting our food as we do our beer.
In our kitchen, everything is made from scratch using the freshest of local ingredients from surrounding farms and New England businesses. For example, the eggs in our Fried Eggs BLTs come from our farm, and all the bread is made from scratch in our kitchen using spent grain from our brewing process. We are proud to serve such fresh and tasty food (and beer!) to our family, friends, and to you, our great customers.
Cheers

Taster pour at the brewery. Appearance is opaque black with thin ring of light brown head. Aroma is pumpkin with light roast. Taste is strong chocolate and vanilla, roasted malts and subdued pumpkin. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin texture, soft carbonation and dry, bittersweet finish. Overall, really tasty and the pumpkin is incorporated nicely without overwhelming everything else.

Taster pour at the brewery. Appearance is clear yellow-orange with no sparkle and thin ring of off-white head. Aroma is tropical fruit, citrus, pine resin. Taste is dominant pine with tropical fruit and mild herbs. Palate is medium bodied with thin, frothy texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, a good DIPA, especially for those that like a piney, tropical fruit mix.

Draught at the brewery, 9/16/17.
Shimmering, hazy-cherry pulp red with a small, fizzling, pink-tinged head atop.
Mostly tart cherry juice in the nose with grain, cracker, light lactic acid and a bit of black pepper or pit-like character. It's light, dry, fairly cherry-driven and not overly acidic/lactic, though it's a bit lacking on beer character, being mostly fruit acid from the nose.
In the mouth it's more of the same. More of a spritzy, lightly tart (mostly from the cherry) fruit beer with some astringency on the finish and a very sparse, cracker-like malt profile that, as with most of their beers, just needs a little more softness/depth to the malt. Otherwise, it's clean, vibrant, quenching/refreshing and well-done on the cherry aspect.

Pale, moderately hazy, almost a light cloudiness, golden-brass, with a small, thin, white head atop and plentiful carbonation in solution.
Lactic acid in the nose is strong, with mineral and light earth behind it. Some grainy, bread and cracker character stems from the malt, alongside light vegetal notes from the bacteria. Light fruitiness emerges but it's mostly unripened apple/nectarine-like. Very "dry", rustic and grainy, as their beers seem to be. No alcohol or flaw.
Grainy and dry in the mouth with some bread and light sweetness emerging later. Ample carbonation, lots of clove, pepper and dry, yellow fruit characteristics. It's saison-y enough, though there's lots of vegetal character and unwanted clove. Very raw, rough and grainy, as well. Feels like it needs more malt depth and maybe a bit more time to mellow.

Lightly hazy, pale-golden-straw body shows ample carbonation and a reasonably-sized, white head showing moderate retention.
Light white pepper, apple and touches of clove show forth in the nose, followed by dry, bready and biscuity grains. Light hop character, dusty and herbal with what seems to be a strong attenuation. No alcohol or flaw.
Dry, zesty, very spicy and peppery, much like the grisette, though even more so here, with biscuit and white bread-like malt for texture, as well as fairly tight carbonation. Pepper and some clove do build up a bit much, over the course of the beer, but it's dry and not full of American hops.

Lightly-to-moderately hazy, dull-copper-brass with a small, white head of low retention.
It's quite sour, mostly lactic and with some definite earthy, tart, strongly herbal character that must be the sumac. Light vanilla and all sorts of pineapple-guava-passion fruit character stemming from this thing.
Juicy and quite tart up front growing more sour through the middle and finishing fairly puckering. Ample texture, fairly engaging carbonation and a reasonably high attenuation. The sumac is an enjoyable element that adds a layer of earthy, peppery, herbal character that helps contrast with the strong lactic acid component, while not being overdone itself.

Obviously sporting real beets, it's bright, neon, blood red, as pictured. Our sample was initially hazy but cleared up quickly and became very clear with a rapidly fizzling, pink-tinged head.
The beet comes off as leather, earth and almost hibiscus, in the nose, with soft base malts adding light honey and white bread underneath. It, at least, takes the focus off of the ester and phenol profile, which otherwise provides typical bubble gum, clove and banana notes.
In the mouth it's initially fun, with lightly earthy, leathery, tart beet notes mixing with soft honey and spongey-like malt notes. Low, loose carbonation needs help and the beer slowly begins to fatigue with over-perceived sweetness.
