Pours a solid dark brown with brilliant ruby highlights when held to light. Creamy beige head shows moderate retention and lace. Smells of caramel brown sugar with a hint of chocolate and licorice. Earthy almost herbal hops break through the sweetness to provide a bit of balance. Taste is pretty much what the aroma promised. Caramel and brown sugar flavor up front give way to a bit of grass and earth. Finishes with a bit of chocolate and hint of ash. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a silky creamy mouthfeel. Solid brown ale with enough flavor to keep me interested. If they would put it into 6 packs I might consider purchasing it more often.

22oz bottle-pours mahogany with a tight light brown head that laces. Aroma is roasty-medium/dark malt. Taste is roasty/ashy-medium/dark malt, 2nd earthy/resin hops.

Combined score based on 22 oz. bottle and draft. Deep brown color with small tan head, producing spotty lace down the glass. Nose is rich roasted malt and chocolate. Flavor has maple sweetness back by roasted malt and wheat characters. The wheat gives the flavor a different kind of feel for a porter. It’s really a contradiction between wheat beer and porter. However, I think it’s unique and real tasty. Well worth a try!

22 oz. bottle Purchased at Smiley’s Beverage, Dover, NH. Nice mahogany pour with quickly dissipating head. Not much for lace. Aroma of caramel, toasted nuts and perhaps some cocoa. Lightly sweet with more nuttiness and roasted malts. A very light hop bitterness in the finish. Enjoyable, well-made Brown ale.

I cracked this bottle tonight with a couple of friends. Pours a pretty solid dark brown/Black color with a decent tan head that shows moderate retention and minimal lace. Smells like lots of peanuts and peanut butter right after the cap is popped. Some chocolate, hints of caramel and roast round out the aroma. Taste is again peanut butter and chocolate right up front. Burnt coffee, caramel, with hints of alcohol and dark sugar round out the flavor profile. This one claims 70+ Ibu’s but I can’t find much of that under all these layers. Medium to thick body, light to moderate level of carbonation with a thick sweet almost acridic mouthfeel. This is an interesting beer and it certainly gets points for being different. It is also quite tasty. I would have liked it a bit thicker in body and a bit less harsh with the roasted bitterness. I would drink it again if given the opportunity.

Pours a solid dark brown color that borders on black. Spirited level of carbonation provides a monstrous bubbly and creamy tan head that slowly recedes. Smells of caramel, chocolate, and brown sugar mostly, but also has a hint of spice and earth or ash in there as well. Taste is mildly spicy with a moderate maple and malt sweetness in there. I get a bit of caramel and chocolate in here, but the spice of the wheat malt always comes back to dry this up a bit. Medium body with a sweet creamy spicy mouthfeel. I honestly think this beer is a case of I put too much crap in my home brew. Its kind of tasty, but there are too many things going on that don’t compliment each other. The spice of the wheat is fighting with the sweetness of the maple. Is this a wheat? Is it a porter? Well its kind of both but it does neither very well.

On tap at Firefly Pours a solid dark brown bordering on black with a thinnish tan head that was all but gone when the glass arrived at my table. Smells, well, as advertised. Smoky phenols dominate the aroma letting almost nothing else through. Hints of chocolate and roast on the outer fringes, but this one is a smoke bomb! Taste is again smoky, but some chocolate, caramel, licorice find their way onto my palette. Medium to thick body, creamy smooth mouthfeel, light to moderate level of carbonation. As a porter the smoke on this is overdone, it dominates the beer rather than enhancing it. If you called this a rauchbeir I may have scored a bit higher.

Growler from the Brewery. Used a weizen glass. Pored a hazy orange nearly copper like hue. Very small thin head. Looks a bit darker than most hefe’s. Nose of malts, light banana and clove Taste is an nice blend of sweet malt, yeast and light banana essence. A nice take on a German style. The yeast does give it a Bavarian type body and taste. Lighter in body which for this beer isn’t a bad thing, gives it high drinkability. Excellent on warm day however I could drink this anytime of the year.
