Description
Throwback Brewery is a small, inspired brewery dedicated to crafting delicious, farm-fresh beer & food from local ingredients. Our brewery and pub are located within a picturesque and meticulously renovated 1860s post & beam barn in North Hampton, NH. Our 12-acre farm- Hobbs Farm- includes a hop yard, young fruit orchard, kitchen & brewery garden, heirloom chickens, and a beer garden overlooking the field.

Given the greenery and peaceful setting of the farm, you would never know that we are conveniently located right off of Route 1 and less than three and a half miles from the beach!

Since we got started in a small warehouse space in July of 2011, our vision at Throwback has been and continues to be all about crafting beer from ingredients grown within 200 miles of us. With the opening of our restaurant in July of 2015 and the move to Hobbs Farm, we have committed to these same sourcing philosophies and love & care in crafting our food as we do our beer.
In our kitchen, everything is made from scratch using the freshest of local ingredients from surrounding farms and New England businesses. For example, the eggs in our Fried Eggs BLTs come from our farm, and all the bread is made from scratch in our kitchen using spent grain from our brewing process. We are proud to serve such fresh and tasty food (and beer!) to our family, friends, and to you, our great customers.

Cheers

Bottle from Bert’s Pours a solid dark brown with a decent sized very creamy tan head that sticks on to for a good long time. The aroma is heavy on the caramel and chocolate with hints of dark fruit. There is a bit of smoke in the nose, but it is very subtle. The flavor is light in the bacon heavy in the fruity flavor with lots of caramel brown sugar and chocolate. Medium body with a creamy silky mouthfeel and a moderate level of carbonation. Oddly for a double smoked double brown ale this one is not very smokey. That being said, I often find that smoked beer tends to be over the top with phenols whereas this beer uses the smoke to add a bit of character to a really nice brown ale.

Bottle picked up at Bert’s Pours a slightly hazy medium copper color with a tightly bubbled off white head that shows moderate retention. Caramel, toffee, and a hint of butterscotch malt aromas countered by a huge grapefruity lemony citrus a hint of pine. The flavor is a little different than the nose promised. Bitter pine and lemon pith that is barely sweetened with caramel and toffee. Sharp acrid hop bite with a hint of alcohol taste. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a lingering sharp bitter mouthfeel. Lots of bittering hops were used here, more late additions could mellow some of the harshness. Nice brew, I certainly wouldn’t turn down another.
