Description
Throwback Brewery is a small, inspired brewery dedicated to crafting delicious, farm-fresh beer & food from local ingredients. Our brewery and pub are located within a picturesque and meticulously renovated 1860s post & beam barn in North Hampton, NH. Our 12-acre farm- Hobbs Farm- includes a hop yard, young fruit orchard, kitchen & brewery garden, heirloom chickens, and a beer garden overlooking the field.

Given the greenery and peaceful setting of the farm, you would never know that we are conveniently located right off of Route 1 and less than three and a half miles from the beach!

Since we got started in a small warehouse space in July of 2011, our vision at Throwback has been and continues to be all about crafting beer from ingredients grown within 200 miles of us. With the opening of our restaurant in July of 2015 and the move to Hobbs Farm, we have committed to these same sourcing philosophies and love & care in crafting our food as we do our beer.
In our kitchen, everything is made from scratch using the freshest of local ingredients from surrounding farms and New England businesses. For example, the eggs in our Fried Eggs BLTs come from our farm, and all the bread is made from scratch in our kitchen using spent grain from our brewing process. We are proud to serve such fresh and tasty food (and beer!) to our family, friends, and to you, our great customers.

Cheers

Half liter bottle courtesy of jcwattsrugger. Thanks! Pours a hazy burnished bronze color with a medium sized dense creamy tan head. Good head retention. Citrus and tropical notes are wafting over from the glass a few feet away. Further aroma notes are toffee and a bit of resin. The taste is toffee malts with a bitter citrus and pine hop finish. A little bi-polar as the sweetness lingers a bit before the bitterness kicks in. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness.

On tap at the EBF Saturday Nice barrel treatment, but the base beer seems a bit thin to hold up to it.

I tried this again on tap at cask and vine tonight as part of a blind tasting and frankly this was the only beer I didn’t enjoy. Its a bit thin on body, heavy on the coffee aroma and flavor with no sweetness to back it up. The barrel treatment was impossible to find and the mouthfeel was ashy. This beer needs some work.

32 oz. growler from the brewery poured 6 hours ago. Color is of course Is black with thin white head, light retention. Aroma is a nice roasted malt with grapefruit and light pine. For a 4% IPA this has some nice flavor! Charred chocolate malt, mineral water, with the citrus and pine showing up on the backend just like the aromas. Bitterness hangs on slightly after the sip. Hangs even better as the brew grows warmer.

The body is on the lean side but it doesn’t hurt the brew. The carbonation gives a nice prickly sensation across the tongue, lively! Overall I really like the amount of flavor in such a low ABV brew, nice job!

On tap at the community oven Hampton. Pours a solid black color without much of a head. Roasted, earthy, and chocolate aroma and flavor. Medium full body with a silky mouthfeel and a moderate level of carbonation. Nice clean flavorful lager although served a bit too cold and also a bit pricey.

She pours a dark brown/close to black color and leaves the same colored body with a one finger foamy white head that dies at a nice pace and leaves some nice lacing sticking cleanly around the sides of the glass.
The smell has some roasty coffee forward Brown Ale-ness that pulls out some toast and toffee, faint bitter hops try to come through but maintain a nice background.
The taste takes the previous flavors and adds a nice dark fruitiness to it, also there seems to be an element of Coca Cola coming in. There is a long dark sweet fruity Coca-Cola like aftertaste and a dry sweet sticky finish.
On the palate, she sits about a medium on the body with a decent sessionable quality to it. Carbonation runs pretty smooth and coats the tongue and mouth nicely.
Overall, roasty and malty like a Brown ale that is normal for its style, but the hops that are said to be in are extremely subdued.

Bottle shared on the bus during RBWG 2014 - Asheville. Quite mediocre, although I suspect this beer has an infection setting in (not too surprising since the only other beer I’ve had from this brewery was also infected). Pours light, hazy brown with a foamy head. Some earthy bitterness present, mild tangy semi-dark malts, leaves, bread. Light bodied with average carbonation. Bland finish, some leafy bitterness and dry bread. Meh.

Bottle - Sweet smoke and maple. Cloudy brown with a brown head. Sweet roast grains and a touch of maple. This wasn’t as bad as it sounds.
