Description

Sampled from 0.75 l bottle. Clear, dark amber with an off-white head. Sweetish, malty, gently fruity and slightly yeasty-spicy aroma of caramel, honey, prunes, sultanas and vanilla. Quite sweet, malty, gently yeasty-spicy and a bit fruity taste of caramel, honey, prunes, sultanas and some vanilla, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter, gently yeasty-spicy and a bit boozy finish. Medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Nice!

Bottle @ home shared with Joes. Very dark brown color, somewhat reddish glare just coming through when held into the light, medium sized light brown colored head that lasts for a short while. Aroma is malts, dark malts, light coffee-ish notes. Flavor is similar. Malts, sweetish a bit and some coffee but it also has notes that give the idea it could be going tart soon. Oh well. Not too bad.

0.33 l bottle from 'Wijnhuis Blerick', 9.2% abv, best before November 2022, cellared for more than a year. Clear, very dark ruby with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head and quite some floaties. Sweetish, moderately yeasty, gently fruity and a little spicy aroma of raisins, prunes, some overripe banana, a touch of clove and traces of ginger. Medium sweet, minimally bitter, gently fruity, moderately yeasty and just a little spicy taste of raisins, prunes, licorice, some ginger and hints of clove, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter, gently yeasty and moderately peppery-spicy finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Solid, actually quite pleasant and well-balanced beer. Not the greatest quad maybe but I like the spicy twist.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ King William, Leersum. Hazy amber with a thin white head. Caramel aroma with some orange and maybe some coriander. Sweet taste with some nice earthen tones. Carbonation is a bit too low which causes the beer to be flat and also diminishes the intensity of the aroma.

Bottle @ home. Hazy yellow color with light orangy haze. Medium sized white to off-white head. Aroma and flavor don't differ much. Some light tart, apple peel notes. Maybe some yeast and a bit saison like. Average body and carbonation. Meh.

On tap at Jopen Proeflokaal. Dark brown to black colour, beige head. Aroma of cocoa, brown malts, some tobacco, caramel, hint of roast. Flavour is likewise, typical Dutch stout, lacks oomph and body but still pleasant. Medium bodied.

Bottle from Secret Santa 2017. Thanks Benzai! Pours brown with a foamy, sudsy head. Aroma is full of strong roasted notes, nuts. Light berry undertones. Taste is fruity sweet with a red berry tartness at the end that stays quite dry. Body is medium with moderate carbonation. Not bad.
