Description
8 Wired is a micro brewing company based in Warkworth, New Zealand.

Our mission is to produce mind blowing beers that will wow craft beer lovers, excite fellow beer geeks and educate the mis-guided who still believe that "beer is just beer". If you want to come on this journey with us, please get in touch.

8 Wired Brewing is inspired by the legendary Kiwi can-do mentality and fellow craft brewers who have dared to challenge the masses and show us all that beer is no longer “just beer”! Known for producing “New world interpretations of old world styles” 8 Wired have multiple shades of very hoppy IPAs, Saisons, Porters and Stouts in their permanent line up and have the biggest barrel aged and sour program in the southern hemisphere.

After 5 years of contract brewing, eventually at 4 different breweries across New Zealand we now finally have our very own brewery (In Warkworth, North of Auckland) where we brew and package everything.

330ml can. Pours a clear dark brown with red hue and a small, creamy, long lasting, tan head that leaves curtains of lace. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee and floral hops. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, vanilla, ash and leafy green hops in a dry, bitter coffee finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Tasty and well balanced.

On tap. Pours black with light head. Aromas of almonds and walnuts, black coffee and roasted malts. Flavors of unsalted sourish nuts, dark chocolate licorice and roasted malts. Not really liking the sour notes…

Can. Clear deep red with a dense beige head that lasts OK. Rich sticky bun aroma with sweet cherries. 7- A bit more complex upon a taste with twiggy and hard spice flavours in with the fruity and bready flavours. The finish has bitterness that gradually grips with some of those twiggy and spicy notes lingering.

Aromas of chocolate, licorice and - yes - plenty of miso that I would have characterised as Vegemite. I'm not sure if I love or hate the miso in the mouth. Can't really get a bead on this one.

500ml bottle. Jet black colour with huge, thick, dense, creamy, moderately to mostly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head - looks perfect. Roasty, chocolately, dark malty, vinous fruity and minimally (yeasty) spicy aroma, notes of dark chocolate, red wine, blue grapes, vanilla, hints of dried fruit, date, a marmite touch. Taste is roasty, slightly chocolately, dark malty, slightly spicy and vinous fruity, minimally woody, notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, a minimally ashy touch, some dried fruit, date, vanilla, a touch of oak and marmite. Creamy to viscous texture, smooth and soft, minimally cloying palate, medium to fine, dense, soft, creamy carbonation. Well crafted, nice malty basis, okay-ish adjunts, round and homogeneous, not the most complex Impy Stout - pretty decent.

Poured from the tap @ Great Northern. Very dark brown with small light tan head. Fairly roasty, some raisin sweetness, mild dryness, decent.

Can. Just misted pale gold with a fluffy white head. Under-ripe tropical fruit, berry and grassy aroma with light breadcrust. Briefly rich malt with a touch of crusty bread before coiled tropical f & berries and building bitterness. A bit peppery at the end too. From the Czech end of NZ pils I guess. Nice stuff.

Interesting balance, definitely has some noble hop floral peppery notes with a bit of NZ tropical vinous green. Clean and to style. LCI
