Description
In 1996 the first 2 beers were on tap at Lambrate brewpub, there were 3 owners and the brewhouse capacity was 150 litres per batch and the pub was opened few days a week. Today there are 5 owners and a considerable staff, plenty of beers are produced and the brewhouse capacity is increasing from 2000 litres to 4000 litres per batch. Alessandra, Fabio, Paolo, Davide and Giampaolo: everyone has a specific role in the company as administrators, head chefs, publicans, headbrewers.
Making craft beer is a time consuming but exciting process, which requires knowledge, passion, care and creativity. Everything is based on a constant research and selection of quality raw materials, then the brewers decide which beer will be produced in terms of style, taste, colour, abv, etc. After the recipe is designed, the brewing process can start. Malt is milled and it’s mixed with water in a process called “mash”. Next step is “lautering” and then “boiling”. Afterwards wort is cooled and moved to fermentation tanks where yeast is added. After 4-6 weeks beer is ready to be kegged or bottled. Every single process is under brewers control, supported by our chemical analysis laboratory. Currently our brewery can produce more than 4000 litres per day.

Medium creamy beige lasting head. Nearly opaque black body with some dark brown at the edges. Smoky earthy licorice aroma, kind of meaty. Dry smoky licorice taste, kind of watery. Smoky, empty aftertaste. A bit disappointing, given the aroma, but still nice. (0.3l draft at Isola della Birra, Milan.)

Small frothy white head. Hazy yellow body. Perfumy earthy hoppy pea aroma with malty notes. Dry perfumy mealy papery yeasty taste. Weak earthy egg-like aftertaste. Balanced and harmonic, but didn’t really like the aftertaste. (0.3l draft at Isola della Birra, Milan.)

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet with light notes of smoke and roasted malt. The flavor is a bit subdued with strong notes of malt combined with light notes of smoke, and roasted malt, leading to a dry end. The body is thin.

Bottled , 3 years old, thanks Jugge! Cloudy amber with lots of sediment. Aroma of raspberry and caramel. Dryish and medium, bodied with rounded malt character. Mild and fruity, some light oxidized caramelly flavours together with straberry and cream. A good, fairly mild beer.

Draught Huge, light yellow head over cloudy green-yellow beer. Cloves (a lot!), baby’s fruit mash. Clear fruity taste with a peppery, clovey seasoning. Very clean finish for such a estery beer, making up for a very good Weizen! Fully fruity again with each sip. Medium to well-bodied. Wheat slickness obvious. Can vie with the better Bavarian Weizens.

Draught Pinkish, good dense head; slightly hazy dark red-brown beer, ruby highlights. Smoked nose, smoked malts, cranberry. Ferrous oxyde in the head? Smoked, bready, toffee, a bit spicey flavours like mace and cinnamon. Quite sweet. Spices keep hanging around. Velvety MF - some people say astringent, but that’s too explicit. A bit wry, nearly tart in the finish is more like it. Very interesting beer, lots going on in there. Most of Lambrate’s beers have some German character - this one not.

1 yr. old Bottle Dark orange-amber, hazy; medium off-white head, leaving lace. Phenols, sweet fruits and oxydized malts. Drier, still quite fruity estery in the taste, alcohol fixed, and a bit of sweetened orange peel. Medium bodied, way more alcoholic than the 7.5% announced. Fruity brew, but off-putting nose (not everybody agrees). Alcohol is very apparent.

Draught Good dense head, yellowish coloured; pale orange beer. Nose of wet dog, old Wallonian houses’ aroma (sorry) but then I get some hops and sweet aniseed grains. Taste is rosewater, sweet almonds and some light malts, leaving a lot of restsweetness, ending spot-on with quinces’ jelly. Very slick, sugar-filled. Aftertaste gets some peppery, lingering flavour. It’s sweet, but not cloying. The sweetness is intentional, and it is nowhere boring.

Draught Light amber-pink colour; absolutely huge head, very straight (?); clear amber-red beer. Colour malts, parsley, roasted; quite malty and a strong cheesy aroma, like a young, hard Dutch cheese. More toasted malts in the taste, bit of caramel. There is a slight dryish-hops related taste on the back of the tongue, which helps to balance. If I found Dutch cheese in the nose, here it’s rather stewed mushrooms. Medium bodied, quite slick. Not very bursting with character, but OTOH, it has a quite good balance. Given now for 6.8% ABV only.
