Cask (gravity) @ 32th Pigs Ear Beer and Cider Festival 2015, at The Round Chapel in Hackney, London, England. [ As Felstar Derek’s Last Stand ].Clear medium to dark brown amber color with virtually no head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, caramel, nutty, dark malt, dusty. Flavor is moderate sweet with a long duration, dusty, sweet malt, nutty, toasted. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20151201] 6-3-7-3-13

Cask at GBBF 2016. It pours near black with a medium light tan head. The aroma is fresh, rather sweet, berry, fruit compote, plum and jam. The taste is smooth, rather fruity, Eccles cake, rocky road, syrupy cola, Vimto and cacao nibs with some peppery spice in the finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. A touch sweet and fruity for me perhaps, but I can understand why this is a highly rated mild. Good example of style.

Cask at GBBF 2016 09/08/2016. A viscous dark black mahogany brown coloured pour with no head. Aroma is sweet berry fruits, jammy fruits, boozy fruit cake. Flavour is composed of strawberry jammy fruits, strawberry cakey malts. Palate is sweet and viscous sticky, mellow carbonation good.

Cask at GBBF ’16, day one, 09/08/16. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent beige cap. Nose is fruit cake, spice, chocolate, light roasted vibes. Taste comprises rich chocolate, liquorice, earthy red berry. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying close. Solid flavoursome mild.

Chelmsford Summer Beer Fest. Cask. Clear deep amber beer, a few cream colour bubbles. Palate is light, dry and has good fine carbonation. Nice condition. Carbonated nip. Mildly tangy dark malts, Modest tangy dark fruits. Crisp finish. The lovely condition really help this, odd that it doesn’t throw a better head though.

Chelmsford Summer Beer Fest. Cask. Almost clear dark brown beer, a few pale tan bubbles. Palate is thin but has reasonable fine carbonation. Tangy thin dark malts, some dark chocolate. Tangy dark fruits. Tangy ripe fruit finish. Quite flavoursome.

Gravity cask at the 2016 Cambridge Beer Festival. As Black Lager, 5%. Not black, not even dark brown, but a respectable thinnish mid-brown. Nice natural carbonation, though. Some malt, black cherry, hazelnut and metal in the aroma, with the slightest afterthought of molasses. Taste is sweet and spicy, with a nore hoppy bitter finish. Body’s got decent carbonation. OK.

500ml bottle. Almost black colour with average to huge, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderatel ylacing, beige head. Chocolately malty and fruity hoppy aroma, notes of milk chocolate, red and blue berries, spicy, earthy hints of corresponding shrubs, a lactic touch of yoghurt combines with the fruitiness, additionally some roast on the malty side. Taste is minimally sweet chocolately malty, fruity hoppy, notes of raspberry and blueberry, a spicy, leafy, earthy touch of corresponding shrubs. Superbly balanced, very aromatic for its low abv.

500ml bottle. Cloudy, almost opaque, darkest golden colour with huge, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Spicy yeasty, estery and phenolic aroma. Taste is almost neutral pale malty, minimally grainy and strawy, subtle sweetness; light and slightly watery. Underwhelming.
