Description
Artisanally brewed in Amsterdam since 2011.
Combining influences from the rich European beer culture with a non-conformist attitude.
From a family heritage of Swedish farm brewers and trained by the masters of ale and porter in England, we ended up in the Netherlands to create our own microcosm in the world of beer.
Inspired by the lesser known sides of European brewing culture and devoted to uncommon artisanal techniques, Butcher's Tears makes distinctive beers that progress beyond fashion and convention.

Draft at Carnivale Brettanomyces 2025. Didn't take many notes, just enjoyed good beers and good company. What I do remember: Subtle Bourbon, some bitterness, dry.

Tap at Eurobrouwers festival. Murky brown with small head, doesn't look great to be honest. Raspberries, plums, soft chocolate, roasted malts, chestnuts, sour berries, tobacco, vanilla, oak. Medium sweet, a bit less sour and light bitter. Medium bodied. Tasty!

330ml bottle. Quasi black colour with slightly late awakening, small, dense, creamy, moderately to mostly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Sweet-ish, caramel malty and chocolately, dark malty aroma, notes of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, dark caramel, toffee, a touch of liquorice; very weak, worm-eaten, woody, even minimally fungous overtones. Taste is roasty, chocolately, dark malty, caramel malty and minimally tart-ish, tannic, notes of dark chocolate, toffee, caramel, a touch of liquorice, some residual sweetness, minimally woody, tannic overtones.
Slim body, oily to viscous texture, smooth and soft, minimally cloying palate, fine, dense, soft, creamy carbonation.
Very homogeneous but not fully harmonious, fairly multifacetted, nevertheless somehow scant, narrow, stinted, hence almost a bit monotonous - not that exciting.
