Description
First brewed in Summer 2008. Beers under the badge "Chideock Brewery", but coming from the same source were seen in May 2012. Brewery location North End Farm, Venn Lane, North Chideok. By 2014 the brewery had ceased brewing on its own equipment while seeking new premises. In the meantime it is believed that some beers are being brewed on an occasional basis at Sherfield Village brewery. In 2016 brewing recommenced at a new location in Devon. Brewing ceased again during 2020 with production moving back to Sherfield Village.

Gravity cask at the Bree Louise. Pours a dark, ruby-brown with a very mild film. Sweet aroma with roasty malts, tobacco and caramel. Pretty standard flavor, not overly roasty, sweet with straight sugar, some minerality, slightly astringent bitterness. Light to medium in body with very fine carbonation. Finishes a bit sweet and I need to struggle to pick up the charred, roasted malts. If there was a bit more burnt wood or something I would like this better. As it is I like the beer but the roastiness/sweetness mix seems tipped in favor of sweetness. Good stuff, could be better.

On tap at the Rake. Clear gold beer. Tiny white head. Light crisp palate. Decent orange marmalade hops that are also a little spicy and with an apple like acidity. Finishes dry and crisp. Bitter aftertaste. Liked it but young Nate2G almost spat this out! Oh well - can’t please everyone!

Pigs Ear. Clear brown beer, ghost of a white head. Light palate, light coca cola and milk chocolate. A little licorice. Some repressed fruit. Semi dry finish. As Leighton said - vaguely Pumpkin beer like. Not bad though.

Cask at the Pig’s Ear BF 2010. Pours dark amber-brown with a filmy head. Rich pumpkin and spice aroma with some malts. Very sweet flavor, tons of pumpkin, nutmeg and other "winter" spices, and some bread. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Spicy finish with nutmeg and cinnamon, pumpkin, bread and ginger, and light bitterness. Pretty damn good. I liked it. (3.9)
Bottle during the High Speed Tasting Pt. II on the train back to London. I bought this one at Cotteridge Wines. It was a MASSIVE gusher. Pours cloudy brown with a light, off-white cream head. Spices in the nose, some brown bread. Medium sweet flavor with nice wintery spices, nutmeg. Light to medium bodied with fine, average carbonation. It’s a tasty, spicy winter ale. But a fuckin’ awful gusher it was too. (3.6)
