Keg at the Butchers Hook & Cleaver. Great looking in the glass and a real punch in the mouth from the hops to wake up a jaded palate. The hops were zingy and there was a definite pleasant piney oiliness to the beer. My only criticism was that it was, to me, overly carbonated and left me feeling gassy. I wouldn’t have had a second.

Keg at Waterloo Tap. Pours hazy orange gold with a thin white head. Aroma is tangerine, melon, sherbet, mango and a hint of pine dankness. Taste is an orangey sherbet hit with a nice lingering pine dankness on the finish that mellows out a little. Really nice stuff and not too boozy

Bottle. Mitchell’s Wines, Sheffield. Hazy, dark orange. Thin, dense, messy, white head. Nose has baked citrus. Light pine. Some buttery malts. Some blueberry hop. Taste has some sweetness, turning resinous bitter. Great mouthfeel. Soft and foamy, with good depth. Finish has some sweetness, and resinous bitterness. Ok, but not in the same league as the Hepcat I had just before.

Bottle. Mitchell’s Wines, Sheffield. Hazy, pale amber colour. Thin, dense, lasting, sticky, off white head. Nose has pine. Orange marmalade. Citrus rind. Candied peel. Touch of peppery spice. Taste has a light, citrus sweetness, turning, sappy, spicy bitter. Soft and smooth mouthfeel. Low, foamy carbonation. Lingering, sappy bitter finish. Bags of flavour at the ABV.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at the Bottle Shop, Bermondsey. Pours clear gold, effervescent, with a tight, frothy white head. Nice aroma, some dry and pithy citrus, tangerine, orange, some dried pale malts. Light sweet flavour with soft piney bitterness, more pithy citrus, rindy bitterness, some grass, nips of biscuits. Light bodied with massaging carbonation. Clean finish, with further piney and rindy bitterness, more pithy tangerine. Good stuff overall.

Keg at BD Soho. It pours clear pale gold with a thick white head. The aroma is soft, mellow soft juicy, tinned fruit, apricot, mango, peaches & cream, hint of fart and light malt base. The taste is crisp, clean, grassy bitterness, straw, rindy citrus, toasty grain, peppery, spice, woody, soapy citrus, and wax quite drying. Light body and moderate carbonation. Something a bit waxy and grainy on the taste. Not their best.

Bottle at home in London -sourced from Caps and Taps. Pours hazy, dark orange with a creamy, slightly off-white head. The nose holds ripening citrus, jammy orange, lightly toasted pale malts, grains, pine, suggestions of berries. Medium sweet flavour with a pleasant wholegrain bread character, some ripening berries, more jammy citrus, oily pine bitterness. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with moderate piney resin, more wholegrain bread, more berries, very light caramel, ripe orange. This isn’t a very ’pale’ ale, although for what it is, it is enjoyable.

El Dorado, Azacca and Equinox hops. Hazy gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is light and semi dry, decent fine crispness. Mild minerals. Smooth light malts, mild creamy sweetness. Peppy orange and tangerine. Mild spice. Good pine. Little juicy mango. Light crisp finish. Orange peel and pine linger on. Comes together very well indeed, very drinkable.
