Description
The Clun Brewery was founded by Matt Williamson and Jack Limond in 2007 to supply local craft beers to the White Horse in Clun, which Jack has owned since 2001. The brewery started as an upgraded homebrew, brewing 9 gallons at a time with Burco boilers as their water baths. This basic setup gave inconsistent results, and in 2010 they moved into an old garage with two 72 gallon barrels. The extra capacity helped Clun build a local reputation, and their range of beers regularly feature as guest ales in over 60 Shropshire pubs as well as The White Horse.

Hand-pulled pint in The Cock Hotel, Wellington Shropshire on 11th March 2016. Clear deep golden pour with a lasting white head. Made with Mosaic Hops and Elderflowers apparently, got some citrus notes from the hops but failed to find any Elderflower flavours. Decent enough with a good bitter finish.

Cask @ Shrewsbury Beer Festival 2014. Pours clear amber with a sweetish malt aroma. Taste verges towards the fruitier end of the malty ESB spectrum. Won’t win beer of the festival but still rather pleasant.

Bottle shared at Christ’s post GBBF minidig 16/08/2014. A hazed pale yellow coloured pour with a thin white head. Aroma is earthy straw and citrus, berry and Base malts. Flavour is composed of murky dirty Base malts, pale malts, light citrus and berry. Pretty dirty. Palate is light and effervescent, high carbonation.

Half-pint, gravity pour at the Shrewsbury CAMRA Beer Festival on 6th Nov 2014. Poured a clear amber, sadly no head sat on the brew, just a thin wisp and collar. The aroma was a mild blend of boths hops and maltiness, as was the taste: not a great amount going on to be honest, the dry hoppy, bitter finish was a plus point otherwise I thought it a little bland.

Bottle shared at chriso’s Post-GBBF 2014 Tasting - London. Pours pale yellow with a white cream head. Not bad. Some light hay, minerals, lemon rind and stone fruits. Light bodied with average, spritzy carbonation. Light smokey hay finish, dry pale bread. OK but there are some brewing faults here.
