Description
Residents of Boston’s North Shore were first introduced to Ipswich Ale during the spring of 1991. With over 30 years of history behind it, Ipswich Ale has been in existence longer than nearly every other craft brewer in New England. Since that time, the Ipswich Ale portfolio of brands have developed into a tradition shared by not only the residents of eastern Massachusetts, but across New England.

Took over production for Newburyport Brewing in 2019, before both breweries were acquired by Huntwicke Capital Group later that year.

Began a partnership with RiverWalk Brewing in late 2023, moving the bulk of production to RiverWalk's facilities, while leaving a small pilot system in Ipswich for small batch and experimental brews.

December 2008 Beer of the Month Club

Overall Impression: Amber color and kind of sweet caramel flavor. Not exactly what you expect from an ESB, but tasty, not particularly bitter.

A deep dark amber ale with a thin white head. A light caramel aroma with burned notes. In mouth, a nutty malt ale with a bit too much burned notes. Medium bodied. On tap at Willimantic Brewing Company and Main Street Cafe, Inbièrenationale IV, May 2007.

February 2009 Beer of the Month Club

Aroma: Citrus is the overpowering scent
Appearance: Golden/orange hazy, very light white head
Flavor: Light flavor, light finish, typical not very tasty aftertaste of a Blonde
Palate: Light body, watery
Overall Impression: Typical boring blonde, I can't get excited for this style at all...

February 2009 Beer of the Month Club

Aroma: Sweet Yeast and roasted malts, sugary to the nose
Appearance: Nice looking dark reddish, brown beer, medium to thin chalky head.
Flavor: Sweet flavor, short nutty finish
Palate: Kinda syrupy, thick finish
Overall Impression: Not a bad beer, but offers very little to distinguish it from a standard Brown Ale. Don't get me wrong, its worth drinking and a fine effort.

12oz bottle-pours a full light brown head and brown color with orange tint. Aroma is roasty dark malt-toffee, some smoke, some yeast. Taste is roasty, medium/dark malt-toffee, some smoke, chickory, secondary copper/earthy hops bite, some yeast. Medium body. Aggressively carbonated. Thanks to Joe-jwc215 for picking this out.

This beer came in my beer club. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with a medium sized brown head. The aroma was bitter, roasty and had a sharp floral hop element. The flavor was bitter, roasty, smoky, and malty with a touch of wood underneath. The finish was long, roasty and smoky. Not really my style. Ok.

Big off-white head and has a reddish brown color. Very earthy malty aroma. There is a good amount of hops in this for an amber ale. Palate is pretty light and maybe has a little too much carbonation. Parts of the beer are kind of soapy. Plus I got this beer for 5 bucks a sixer. Maybe the bottle was quite old.

Had it on tap which is definetly the way to have this beer. Found it in bottles and WAY too carbonated, took forever for the head to settle. nice pale ale with a little bite, pretty clear for a pale ale, not hazy at all. pretty refreshing
