An ordinary brown ale. Unpleasant herbal character to the aroma. Flavor has malt, very light hops and just a touch of nuttiness. Some flavor of roasted barley as well. A decent but conservative beer that doesn’t take any chances and might get a few customers who decide to branch out from Newcastle.

Bottle. Very dark brown / black color with a creamy beige head. Yeast at the bottom. Light aroma of roastedness and a smooth hoppy nose. Great tasty flavour of roastedness, and with a great mouthfeel. Nice bitter and dry finish.

Golden amber with little white quick diasappearing head. Aroma and taste of hops & malts. Medium carbonation. Little sweetness. Finish has a pleasant bitter bite from the hops. Again very pleasant, but not an extreme Pale Ale, easy drinkable.

Never realized I never rated this wonder! Had it many times, but this the first time I have seen a 60 on. pitcher of this delicious barley wine. Reddish copper ale with a thick lacing off white head, almost moka. Classy pleasant hops with citrus, sweet caramel, and vinous quality. In mouth, a sweet malt with caramel, light pungenat hops, resinous and grapefruity, alcohol warmth. The classic barley wine. Huge pitcher at August 26,2006 at McGregor’s, Henrietta, NY, shared with GRM, Ian Guénard and the suave Dumdum, who was almost making love to the pitcher. 8-4-8-4-16
2003 vs 2006. Dégustation de Vieux Stocks III, Oct. 13, 2006. Both are mahogany red with a thin off white head. 2003 A smooth hop and caramel aroma with vinous notes, small fruits. The mouth was extra hoppy with grapefruit, and smooth alcohol. 8-4-8-4-15 2005 was more agressive, more alcohol, showing this beer needs to be aged a bit. 8-4-7-3-14

(Draught at GBBF, London, 2 Aug) Colour is golden yellow with small head. Nose is fruity and sweet with tropical fruit (pineapple, apricot). Same goes for the taste: fruity, sweet with tropical fruit (mango, pineapple). Full body, malty sweet finish. Tasty, but to be honest way too sweet for me.

(Draught at GBBF, London, 2 Aug) Colour is golden yellow, hazy, with white head. Nose is fruity with notes of orange (Seville orange) and a sweetish wheat aroma. Taste is fruity with lemon, wheat, coriander, clove and Seville orange. A bit sharper than its German cousins. Some hops in the finish. Refreshing.
