Three Tuns Brewery
Microbrewery
in Bishop's Castle,
Shropshire,
England 🏴
Associated Venue: Sun Inn
Established in 1642
It’s 1642 and a half-timbered building is built in Salop Street Bishop’s Castle to brew real ale for the coaching inn next door, the Three Tuns Inn and our real ales come to life for the first time.
The current classic tower brewery with a 10BBL plant was built in 1888. The beers were sold under the name Three Tuns. Brewing ceased in September 2001 due to problems with beer quality due to some equipment needing replacing with brewing being carried out by Hobson's.
in January 2003, our brewery is bought by John Roberts’ Brewing Co.Ltd. - the name of which celebrates our historic association, over about a century, with the Roberts family. Our brewery is fully refurbished, ensuring its brewing future for many years to come.

500ml bottle from Anthony's of Wellington. Clear gold pour with a nice white collar. Pleasant floral ginger aroma. A nice amount of ginger coming through to taste. Light, refreshing and fitting the bright Autumnal sunshine nicely.

Handpull cask from Weavers of Malvern. Mid- to dark gold and clear with a small off-white head. Some honeyed notes in the aroma overlaid with an astringency. Taste is similar: an almost syrupy sweetness interrupted by astringent hoppy notes. It's mostly a sweet beer though, but it's a got a lovely balance. Bittering hops linger in the aftertaste. Full oily body with soft carbonation. Nice.

Cask at Coach and Horses, Shrewsbury – at 3.7%. Pours a pale gold with a small white head. The aroma is mainly malts, but some traces of ginger too. In the mouth, the ginger is very strong and, whilst not overwhelming, leaves little room for anything else. It’s light and refreshing and some hints of summer fruits and grains as well. Finish is slightly dry and spicy. This is not bad at all, but a little strange.

A very solid go to pale ale, pours a lovely pale gold with a frothy white head and a semi-sweet light biscuity aroma. Smooth and easy drinking, it's nicely fruity and a little bitter, with some floral hop character poking through too

Half pint @ House of Grain in a dimple glass with a handle. Pours amber, frothy off-white head. Aroma of fruity malt, continuing to taste, quite light, standard fruity bitter territory, gentle caramel hints, pleasant sweetness. Fine.

Clear amber with a frothy white head and a yeasty malty aroma. An old school English bitter with fruit malt, caramel sweetness and floral bitterness
