Bottle @ Papsø. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty roasted smoky aroma. Roasted malty smoky chocoalte flavor. Has a roasted malty smoky chocolate finish.

Bottle. Deep and clear amber brown, reluctant but thick beige head with good retention. Aroma of pine > flowers > citrus. Taste is bitter pine resin. Nice.

Aroma: The nose is fairly sweet, caramel, dark fruits, molasses, brown sugar, and light booze
Appearance: This one pours a cloudy reddish-brown color, wispy beige head, and light lace
Flavor: The taste is fairly heavy sweet and malty, some spice, light earthy bitterness
Palate: Rather sticky on the mouth, some chalkiness, and a sweet (almost cloying) finish
Overall Impression: I wasn't really impressed with this one. It isn't a bad beer, but its overly sweet to the point that it is clearly limiting. It does improve as it warms, so don't drink this one too cold. I didn't hate it, but I don't see myself seeking this one out in the future. If I did drink it in the future, I'd certainly prefer a smaller sample size instead of a whole 22, as the sweetness became overwhelming in such a larger sample size.

Bottle thanks to Jcwattsrugger. Pours clearish brown. Off white head. Nose/taste of brown sugar, brown malt, cocoa and mild citrus in deep background. Dry powdery cocoa and mild citrus finish. Medium body.

Bottle shared by Jcwattsrugger. Pours black. Tan head. Nose/taste of pineapple, cocoa powder, baker’s chocolate, pine and hops. Some black licorice in taste as it warms. Finishes dry and almost piny. Medium body. Mild chalky ash as it gets warmer.

Bottle from Plainfield Hardware. Dark deep maroon, huge tan head, good retention for a barley wine, delicate lacing. Overall, a beautiful beer. Aroma of boozy caramel, pine sap and wood. Taste is butterscotch candy dipped in whiskey, with a biter pine finish. Nice.

22 oz. bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks Dany), pours a murky reddish / orangey brown with a small beige head. Aroma of brown sugar, intense dry hops and heaps of caramel / toffee. Flavour is sort of a mess - toffee and loads of hops that seemed jammed in there without any design. Quite unrefined for a barley wine - maybe it'd do better with aging, but this just seems like a mess. Still fairly decent.

22 oz bottle Table and Vine, West Springfield, MA. Cost $5.99. Nice frothy off-white head. Nice thick, sticky lace down my English Pint glass. Aroma has roast, bitter chocolate, and smoky wood. Taste is roast, some earthy, light bittersweet chocolate. Some charred malt as well. Very dry, with a lingering bitterness. Light smokiness. Overall, a well-made dry stout. Good flavor and very drinkable if you like dry stouts, I do! Bit above average here.

Very dark brown body with a lighter copper glow near the bottom with a nice thick three centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, light hops, anise, nuts and a bit of caramel. Medium-bodied; Deep pungent roasty malt flavours at first then shows a nice complexity of hops, then a shows a dry oaky note and a good dose of anise. Aftertaste shows a lot of caramel, some licorice and other spices and all finished off with a dry, bittering malty bite and some alcohol. Overall, a nice dry stout that shows a lot of good character and some potent bittering flavours that might be a bit too strong for some. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Liquor Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 24-July-2011 sampled at home in Washington on 30-July-2011.
