Description
The Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery leads the Craft Beer Revolution in Ontario. Brewing radical Beers and creative Ales right on the waterfront in downtown Barrie since 2004, the Flying Monkeys was the first Ontario Craft Brewery to truly recognize the need to overthrow the conservative regime of macro-brews and timid small batch taste-a-likes and create a new Culture of Craft Brewing in our province.

Casting off the comfortable and respectable cloak of the Robert Simpson Brewing Company, and revealing our true selves as the Flying Monkeys late in 2008, we gave rise to the the collective creativity of our Brewery and committed our Brewhouse to the adventurous longings of the growing culture of Craft Beer Lovers in Ontario.

Cask Days 2013.
Hazy amber pour, small off white head. Aroma of fresh, green, citrucy hops. Some light mineral notes, with some tropical fruit. The malts are solid, and bready. NIce cereals, and a tad nutty. The finish was medium bitter, with a great fresh, green, grassy, citrucy hop note. awesome session ale.

750ml bottle from the LCBO.
dark brown pour, with a small beige head. big maple aroma, with some big burnt sugar, toffee aromas also. touches of vanilla, reminds me alot of being at a suagr shack as a kid and eating maple syrup right off of fresh snow. the mouthfeel is thick and luscious, and the carbonation is perfect. the sweetness is quite strong, but a solid bitterness cuts it in the end. the alcohol is well hidden, and the finish is quite bready with big notes of maple, and toffee. overall this is quite nice, a good sipper, but whoa, is it sweet.

750ml bottle from the lcbo, in a fancy box. This smells like i just stuck my head into a cedar shrub. Loads of green cedar, white pepper, and citrus mixed with more spice. The body and mouth feel are spot on. The finish is bitter, orange peel, pith, bitter. Notes of citrus, and more pepper come through with a strong cedar finish. Super original, impressive.

Jet Black pour. Big frothy dark brown head. The cocoa aroma is unbelievable. It’s like inhaling nestle cocoa powder. Just milk chocolate and mars bars. Wow! Viscous mouth feel and soft carb. The alcohol is a little hot and makes and appearance. The finish is low on the bitterness with some light roast, coffee, and and soy. But again, the cocoa goes bonkers and takes over again. This is a wild beer. I like it but also don’t like it cause there is no way I can finish the bottle.

6er from the LCBO.
slightly hazy amber pour, nice wqhite frothy head, good lacing.
Nice cereal/grassy aroma. nice grassy hops, touches of pine, some light citrus, and a solid wheat/cereal malt base. Solid body, low carbonation. medium bitterness, light soapy hop finish. nothing mind blowing, pretty basic, a good intro to craft beer. a solid replacement for the robert simpson amber.

Juicy citrus, even some mango. No malts to speak of, just a good dose of apa level hops. Great carb, great palate. Medium bitterness. Such a great session beer. Bottle this! Nevermind the hoptical illusion!

650ml bomber from the brewery.
Clear dark amber pour, a little lighter than i expected. Big fluffy white head, good retention and lacing. Aroma of deep pine resin, dark roasted malts, even some dark semi bitter fruits. Hops get quite a bit more pungent asit warms. The malts get sweeter, and the alcohol makes an appearance. The alcohol is quite well hidden though for such a big beer. A bitter finish with a light roasted malt finish. Tastes like a blend of the smashbomb and netherworld turned up to 11.

On tap at the brewery.
Very light golden color. Light grassy hay aroma mixed with sweet sugary bubblegum. Sweet finish, no bitterness at all, no hops at all either. Its basically their anti-gravity lght ale with hubba bubba flavoring. Interesting, but nothing i would buy.

On Tap at Volo.
HUGE hops aroma, no surprise there really. Loads of citrus, pine, and a juicy blood orange also. Not much malt, but thats to be expected, this is just what the Ontario beer scene ordered! Its like a double hoptical illusion. Good stuff!

On tap at C’est What.
dark pour with hues of red come through in the light. Aroma of spicy hops with a good dose of roasted malt. The flavor is spicy, and it mixes so well with the roasted malt, and smoke. Really an interesting, and flavorful brew!
