On draft at Collins Pub, Seattle WA, enjoyed in the company of after4ever. Hazy cloudy orange yellow pour with a nice egg white head. Aroma of citrus and pine hops, and a hint of mellow sweetness. Taste is great, very fresh grapefruit-orange citrus with a slightly resinous body, and a clean bitter finish.

Draught chalice at Redbones on 11/1/07
Not much retention or lacing is put forth by this and there isnt even much of the tan head, but the beer is a lustrous, deep espresso brown-black, with burgundy-violet highlights. Clarity is medium.
Lovely vinousness is allowed to shine, not being beaten down by too much malt sweetness or bitterness. Hops display a touch of piney resin, but they augment the deep espresso dryness and do not assert themselves, neither in aromatics or bitterness, thankfully. Some doughiness and cookie-like notes soften the vinousness, somewhat, on the finish, but prunes and poignant berries can not be held down here. Chocolate-espresso-liquor-like notes give warmth and complexity on the finish. Medium sterngth of aroma, no flaws.
Lip smackingly tart vinousness notes are elegantly displayed atop of "antique" maltiness. Very woody and old, but in a good way. It has none of the crystally, bready, crackery-like dryness, but all of the woody, lightly fruity and daintily roasty notes that make the top tier stouts what they are. Light hoppiness shows some juicy green leafiness that adds light bitterness, in combo with the dark malts. Body is medium, with a very silky-soft texture and the attenuation, quite high, being one of the best parts of this beer. Raisins and anise collect on the finish, with some light black pepper-like phenols and a touch of alcohol that cuts in to the richness and elegance of the malts. But it’s still a fantastic stout and brings more delicious vinousness than I can remember having in any oatmeal stout since the last Bells Oatmeal stout I had.

Draught pint at Redbones on 10/24/07
A very deeply burnished copper-red body is lightly hazy, with a fairly dense, beige head atop. Moderate retention, light lacing.
Toasted malt and hops! Breadiness rolls through the nose, as straightforward C-hoppiness takes over and piles on lots of stiff citrus. Not particularly varied or interesting, it just seems rather uninspired. Malt apparency is low, other than contributing more dryness to the already dry, acidic nose. Some light caramel and dough notes, but nothing to distract from the heavy citrus dominance. Clean, though, otherwise and no alcohol is noted. Medium strength of aroma.
Fruitiness starts up initially; some cherries, red apples, strawberries but is quickly curtailed by the stronger white grapefruit and orange bitterness. Soft, yeasty texture but with minimal comfort from any real malt suppleness. Grainy and bready on the finish, with hop acids steadily fatiguing the palate. Tastes like dry graham crackers and marmalade by the end. No alcohol or flaws. Too bitter, needs more malt balance/complexity.

On tap at Brouwer’s Café in Seattle. Pours copper with gold edges, white head and spotty lacing. The aroma brings forth fresh grapefruit hops mixed with lightly roasted malts and some breadiness. Overall the aroma is a bit light. The taste only has a hint of breadiness that goes well with caramelized malts and formidable grapefruit hop bitterness. The malts and grainy breadiness add a welcomed dimension to the flavor but the hops are the main player here.
