1 pt 6 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown and with a reddish hue and a diminished light brown head. Mild/smooth chocolate to liqourice blended aroma and with a slight roasted note. Flavour holds a mild warming alcohol feel, a slight burning roasted malt note and a smooth chocolate note. Finish has the same in a continued fashion. Quite nice but not really great.

Bottle. So this beer pours a nice reddish brown color, but then it forms this wonderful head that sits about one finger high of tan foam. Aroma is sort of chalky... with some chocolate notes and a touch of wet cardboard. Flavor is sweet toffee malts with a bit of a chocolate/coffee edge to it. The rye is part of that malty/chalky mix and blands nicely.

Pour is a golden with a huge white head. Aroma is bready but very yeasty and some citrus. Flavor is very grainy and bready. Probably spot on for the style but not a very good style to begin with.

22oz bottle provided by Gregis at my tasting 10/12. Pour is clear amber-orange with pretty much no head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, slight hoppiness at the tail end. Taste is the malt sweetness (very typical Barley Wine) with some slight heat to the finish. Hop bitterness to the finish. I liked this one, but could have used a bit more age.

Deep dark brown in colour, almost completely opaque. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and some light sweetness and spices. Full-bodied; Strong roasty flavours lasting a long time with a lactic quality and a bit of nuts prevailing. Aftertaste shows the standard qualities - coffee, chocolate and dark cherries. Overall, a good heavy porter - I don’t really think this should be an English Strong...but that’s just me. Regardless, it is worth trying! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Binny’s Downtown in Chicago, Il on 08-October-2007.

Nestle’s quick chocolate greets the olfactory when you pop the lid on this stuff. Very friendly initial impressions. Beautiful swirling hypnotizing pour. Pour this like an unfiltered dunkelweizen. There is a layer of gunk on the bottom of this bottle. Dark cloudy rootbeer brown. No head. Taste is almost choco malt. I think I may detect some anise or licorice in there too. Some mild back of throat industrial bitterness appears on the palate. Very unique to say the least. How about that, I am imagining red tulips as I drink, quite an experience. Some mild carbonation. Overall the taste of this is well controlled but that medium bitter bite keeps you aware and continues to build thru the session. In the end there is a linger that hangs for a short while.

On tap at the Vintage Estates, thanks Nuts. Beautiful black pour, looks dee-lish wth its chocolate mousse head. Aroma is malty milky and easy going, seems very friendly and mouth watering. As far as the taste goes you’d never know this is 9%, no way. Rather strong and smooth but yet is easy to palate. Some mild creamy carbonation is apparent. Not quite as oppressive as an imp stout, but this is approaching the style. Finish is rather alky overall tho it is well controlled with personality.

Bottle courtesy of SS: Poured a clear and bright golden color ale with a big white foamy head with good retention and good lacing as well. Aroma of light peach with some sweet malt and light spice mix in the background. Taste is also a well balance mix between some light peaches, sweet malt and light spices (maybe some pepper) and a yeasty finish. Body is about average for the style with some great carbonation. Texture is not oily nor is sweetness cloying which was well appreciated. I thought this was very well done and probably underrated IMO.

Slight hazy brownish orange color but light. Has a froth for a head, or should I say lack of head! Initially a sour aroma but in the glass it has a slight spice aroma. When you pour this stuff the gunk on the bottom of the bottle comes out in chunks, watch out. Makes you wannah pout. You may not want to pour it all out of the bottle. Very light carbonation, almost flat. Taste is spicy, a bit difficult to detect the pumpkin in this brew tho the spices are readily observable. Goes flat rather quickly after the carbonation at the commencement fades. Typical pumpkin beer with less carbonation on the back of the throat. Finish is nearly mechanical propinquity.

Clear orange with a small head. Aroma has the makings of an IPA, but stronger. Sweet malts, over a pine and citrus backbone, with some floral notes. Chewy body. Flavor of pine hops, grapefruit, citrus, malts, and kinda sweet. The alcohol is fairly well hidden. A good one.
