A little bit of sweet malt, a little sugar and a nutty bitter finish. Pours dark mahogany. Smell doesn’t have a lot of character - really isn’t much there. On tap beerbistro

Decent head and brown-amber body. Nutty malt aroma, slightly sharp thanks to some hops. Flavour is a lot of nuttiness, smooth but weak mouthfeel. Kind of a lame attempt at this type of beer.

Originally rated June 2006. Bought this one on my trip to Toronto, as we cannot get this one in the Ottawa LCBOs. First tried the night Detroit got eliminated, and the Ducks went on to the Cup. Was in my hotel room, and found it nicely bitter from the bottle. Now, back home. And with a proper glass. Pours a brown colour with red highlights. Its head is tanned, creamy, with nice retention and beautiful lacing all around. Moderate carbonation. The nose is very malty with grain, and after breathing a bit, dark fruit and nuts stand out. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel, a little oily as the name refers to. The nutty dark fruit is present in the taste, with a clean bitter finish, but not too long. Some caramel notes too appear. Pretty decent beer, and a good one as my first Neustadt Springs Brewery experience.

Canette 473ml.

Bought this can a while back at the LCBO and now thought it was the right time to open it up... and it exploded on me and foamed beer all over my desk and myself. OK, now back to normal. Pours a clear golden-amber colour with lots of bubbles stuck to the glass. The head is fluffy, huge, a bit off-white, has good retention and leaves dirty lacing all over (and beer on my floor). I get mostly hop from the smell, and lots of it. Then after pouring some more, I get some butterscotch, but the hop is really taking over, right after breathing a few seconds. Mmm... the butterscotch is in the taste as well, but not in a sweet over-powering manor. Mild nuts come out in the finish. The hop is there in the flavour, but letting some room to the rest, and just sitting back. Overall, really nice hoppy nose with decent taste to create a beautiful scotch ale that I would buy again. Just watch out for the pour and its crazy head.

Pours a golden colour with a slight amber hue. Big frothy mildly off-white head with great retention and bubbly lace. Slow tiny bubble carbonation. Hoppy nose, well-balanced with the malt and yeast that reminds me of bread. Hints of bananas also stand out. Lightly-bodied with a refreshing crisp mouthfeel, but a little stickiness in the finish. Slightly hazy at the last pour. Mild hop bitterness appears in the taste and the malt comes to soften it. A good-looking lager that is above-average.

This stout poured a deep black colour with a huge, creamy, light brown head. To the nose there are scents of coffee, metal, cocoa and caramel. First taste was quite smooth with a sweet coffee flavour in the forefront. Other flavours of chocolate, roasted malts and nuts soon followed. Finish is burnt and bold, just as a good stout should be. Finish is mostly sweet roasted coffee with a touch of cocoa. Very good!
