Draft Mighty Matanuska Brewfest: Poured a golden color with an off white head. Aroma is perfume with fruits and vanilla. Taste was blueberry fruit and grain, well balanced but light.

Bottle from Bottleworks, Seattle
Dark amber-brown color with red hue, and small creamy head. The aroma is quite nutty, some caramel, light alcohol. Caramel and malt flavor, the alcohol punch is quite evident, nutty side too; correct bitterness.
A boozy Barley Wine, not bad, but not convincing too.

Rich, super muddied brown coloured body with a nice deep brown colour and a thinnish, single centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of alcohol, pit fruits, earth, mushrooms, grain, yeast and of course a lot of nuts. Medium-bodied; Rich hop flavour at first with some grassy notes coming out, then showing a lot of caramel and sugars coupled with toffee and the ever-present earthiness. Aftertaste is all nuts and caramelised sugars with a rich pit fruit finish - nice and robust. Overall, a very nice brown with tons of flavour and a good alcohol presence, but somewhat muted which works nicely. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from La Bodega in Anchorage, Alaska on 04-October-2014 for US$8,00 sampled at home in Washington after celebrating running a marathon earlier today in Maryland on 29-November-2014.

22 oz. bottle, pours a dark caramel brown with a small tan head. Aroma of caramel malts, booze and brown sugar -- lots of heat here. Flavour brings out caramel, alcohol, and candied sugar. Alcohol is revealing though not too burning. Pretty simplistic for a barley wine -- not very complex. Drinkable, but rather hot.

Dark brown, thin head, almost smokiness in the dark malt character. Good body, slight sweetness in the balanced finish.

Medium brown, a little nutty aroma. Moderate nutty character, but with a fairly full body. Off-dry finish. Decent brown. The brewery generally makes good malty styles, but this is maybe the least inspirational of the ones I’ve had.

Medium brown, thick head. Not much nose but a rich, nourishing malty stout with mellow hop bitterness and balanced roast/chocolate taste.

22 oz. bottle, pours a hazy orange amber with a small white head. Aroma is over-malted, with residual sugars, caramel malts and some resin. Flavour is muted, with earthy notes, dirty yeasty notes, and a little hops. I wonder what the hell they were going for here. Very mixed up and jumbled. Not a disaster, but not good.

Bottle from Haggen’s Grocery, Woodinville
Hazy amber color. Caramel aroma and flavor, rather dry, with earthy and tired hops. Is this old? Not good.
