Trade with SHIG. Interesting beer in a 22oz bottle. Tan-black. A-chocolate-dk malt, earthy, some chalky. T-chocolate-dk malt (with a following astringency as it warms), chalky, hint of cherry. Down to a 2.8 warm. Water chemistry?

Deep brown coloured body, very cloudy, with a bright ruby glow when held up to the light and a thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of oak, vanilla, toffee, nuts, caramel, alcohol and bunches and loads of pit fruits. Medium to Full-bodied; Very strong alcohol and metallic burn up front with a more sedate chocolate, raisin, fig, earth, oak, vanilla, bourbon and even some light hops in the flavour. Aftertaste is quite complex with the alcohol burn and malt by far the strongest flavours. But, some vanilla and especially the sweetness from the pit fruits starts to overlap on the burn, but the palate and flavour are less than ideal, especially with my aging of the bottle. Overall, a decent barley wine at best; Perhaps I was expecting a bit too much, but even after the aging of the bottle and getting it from a nice brewery way up North, this didn’t turn out the way I had hoped. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from La Bodega in Anchorage, Alaska on 04-October-2013 for US$14,50 sampled at home in Washington as it starts to get slightly chilly here on 06-December-2015. Date on Bottle: 19-February-2013 // Purchased Date: 04-October-2013 // Sampled Date: 06-December-2015, Listed on Bottle at 2013 Vintage at 13,0% ABV
