Bottled. Hazy orange, with an off-white head. Cellar, some sulphur, sweetness, mould, fruits and spices in the aroma. Fruity flavor with oranges and cellar-notes. Medium body and a lightly spiced finish. Nice, but a bit a too special for me. (rating: 6-4-6-3-13-3.2)(060704)
This one has been on my must-rerate-list for more than a year, and when I found it in Copenhagen last week, I bought a bottle. It still pours a hazy, orange body, with a good dash of sediments if one wants to. The head is big and quite dense and lasting. The nose is quite spiced, with orange-peel and a good dash of hops. There’s also a note of alcohol and yeast. Having a sip, bitterness is very evident, as well as a pronounced sweetness, spices, some yeast and a woodyness. There’s not so much yeastyness in the flavor, but it’s there, and that goes for the orange-peel as well. Even thought there’s a good sweetness in the beer, the body feels medium full and dry. Finish is spiced and citrusy, but the bitterness plays the leading role, and lasts for a long time. The beer leads my thoughts towards Orval, but it’s not there. I pushed my rating a bit higher, but not much. (071014)

Bottled. It was interesting to find this beer in Helsinki as it seems to be rare in Amsterdam (or at least I didn’t see it in beer bars). Pale yellow, good creamy white head. Fruity, mango aroma with metallic notes. Lemony grassy flavor, even some notes of wood (oak). Very Belgium blonde-like pils. Fruity but dry - as such enjoyable. I believe that this is actually made with an ale yeast.

Almost went all day without a beer. Got a lot of stuff done so i thought I would pass myself to the land of dreams with beer. Bottle poured into a Bodum small coffee glass (hey its glass). Pours a dark glowing yellow. Cannot see through the beer. Head was pretty big but dissipated quickly. Very loud too, dont think I ever heard a beer make so much noise (like fresh opened soda). Aroma is present - candi sweetness mixed with a charcoal-like cooked meat background. Effervescent orange aroma as well. Taste is very unique for a wit, as eaglefan stated below, this realy is a different type of wit. Taste has a strong muted orange taste followed by a grainy flavor. Aftertaste is grainy sweet fruit. Despite the over-caronated look of the beer, the mouthfeel was really pleasant, not poppy like most wits. This is also one of the stronger Wits I have encounters and which is not at all present in the beer. I give this beer a few more points for creativity. Everything they make is really good. As it warms (and with the sediment) the taste becomes a mix of orange candy sweetness.

Notes from bottle at HDG. poured into a Leffe glass. Color is very very murky brown, cannot see through it at all. Aroma is all malt, malty sweetness. Smell is reminiscent of an English barleywine (i.e. Lees Harvest). Taste is pretty much like a Lees as well, a bit less intense. Medium carbonation. Everything I have tried from this brewer so far is well crafted and definitly outside the regular framework.

Bottle, Chimay glass. Pours with no head but medium carbonation. The beer is really murky, lots of sediment, so much it sticks to the side of the bottle’s. Almost looks like a beer jello when standing still with all the ediment and carbonation. The smell is sour, at first I thought I might have got a ruined bottle (dated 7/04) but soon realized definitly not. The taste to me is interesting. Its definitly a belgian strong ale (despite only being 6.5%) but its got a littel twist to it like some of the other t IJ brews. The taste is very effervescent and trails off leaving a crisp feeling on your palate. But I could still taste the beer minutes after the sip. Goes down smooth.

Draught. Slightly spicy, citric aroma. Slightly hazy orange colour. Medium-sized, stable white head. Orange flavour, a bit like orange juice. Also some spices, the usual witbier ones. Creamy mouthfeel, not as highly carbonated as many other wits.

Draught. Weak smokey, quite sour aroma. Cloudy amber colour, small white head. The sourness balances the maltiness very well. Very vinous flavour. Actually easily drinkable in spite of ABV. I wonder if it was intended to end up like this. 5 3 7 3 15
Bottle, 9% as Ijnde Jaars. 18 months past BB date. The aroma is creamy and fruity with a little sourness to it. Hazy red, brown colour, tiny floaties. Big off-white head, quite stable. The flavour is peppery and creamy, a little alcoholic with a good, slightly sweet, malt base. There is also an underlying sourness which might or might not not be intended, but in any case it does not hurt the flavour. The sourness gets a little citric, with citrus fruits and dried sweet fruits, raisin. Creamy mouthfeel. 6 4 7 4 17

Draught. Spicy aroma, a bit like a wheat beer, fresh fruity hops. Cloudy amber colour. Big, stable, creamy white head. Very hop aromatic flavour. Fruity, almost perfumy, but very nice. OK bitterness. Soft carbonation. Has some alcohol feel, but not too much.
