Big Drop was launched in October 2016 by the-then City lawyer Rob Fink, along with his school-friend/band-mate, designer and entrepreneur, James Kindred. Along with renowned experimental brewer, Johnny Clayton (formerly of Wild Beer Co), they’ve perfected techniques to make alcohol-free craft beer without the need for artificial removal of alcohol.
The 2018 contract with a leading supermarket chain will require Big Drop, which moved production from a small-batch brewer in Bermondsey to Sussex-based own-label specialist Hepworth, to scale up production from 10,000 litres per month to some 40,000 litres.
Production moved to Black Sheep Brewery after a deal was agreed with Keystone Brewing Group, announced December 2024.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from SPAR-EAT17. Pours totally clear yellow with a fizzy, white head. Lightly sweet with a lot of pale grains, simple bread, hints of grass and straw. Light bodied with spritzy carbonation. Semi-sweet finish, more crispy cereal flakes, doughy biscuit, hay. So so.

Judging by the matching description on the brewer’s website, this goes by the name “Galactic Extra Dark”, which is what I ordered at a local brewpub. It pours very dark brown with a small off white head. There’s a mild roast malt aroma. The flavor is of roast malt, coffee, and maybe a little hops. It’s not as creamy and lacks some of the body I’d expect in a stout, and the carbonation seems high. It puts me more in mind of a mediocre schwarzbier.
