Cask gravity at London Drinker BF. Black beer with ruby edges and beige lasting head. Roasty, toasty aroma. Very chewy in the mouth, tarry and with tobacco flavours. Just a bit too severe for me. Dry finish 3.3/5.0 Re-rate at The Bull Hotel, Wrotham. Very choccy arooma, some cereal. Fullish and dryish malt in mouth. Good choccyness throughout. Finish has some tartness. Good, I like it.

Cask gravity London Drinker BF. It must be some reflection on how good this brewery is in that the first 3 beers I had here were from Dark Star. This had generous lemon grass/ginger and grapefruit aroma. Good russet colour, beige head. Bit sharp in mouth. Not a massive fan of this. Hottish finish from the spicey ginger. Bit juicy.

Cask gravity London Drinker BF 06. Like ESBman, this was my first beer of the festivl and rather spoilt myself by having one of the best beers there right off the bat. Gold colour with thin white head. Grapefruity hop aroma so typical of a lot of D Star beers. Good hoppy flavour with structure from the juicy pale malts. Finish is citric hop with more grapefruit. Brilliant beer.

Cask at Spuyten Duyvil - totally opaque, with almost no trace of a head (just a few large, brown bubbles) - bitter, roasty aroma, with some wood, a touch of toffee - quite heavy, with an oily mouthfeel - dry, yet quite sweet at the same time, but the sweetness comes across as artificial - bitter and roasty on the back end, with some burnt grains - good, but not as complex as I like my imperials to be.

Cask handpull at Wenlock. Black beer with thin beige head. Molasses, black treacle, espresso coffee aroma. Coffee flavours, good in mouth with excellent finish. A bit powdery. Slightly nutty even and very grainy. Good enough

Cask conditioned at Merton Beer Festival Sat 18th Feb. Definately smells like espresso and those coffee beans were very much in evidence with each slurp but in some casesgetting things right ’less is more’ and I personally think that they had ovedone it a bit on the coffee front and it had taken over a bit too much, a litle bit less would have seen a marked improvement. Although it was very dark it did lack a little something in the appearance that a can’t quite put my finger on but that you get with some stouts. Its small head didn’t hang around for long but the burnt roasted coffee taste did. Not at all bad but could have been so much better with a bit of tweaking on those coffee beans.

Casked. Golden colour, mediumsized white bubbly head, which lasts long. Sweet fruity aroma with caramellish hints. Flavour sweet fruity with enormous hoppiness. Also some oaky and spicy hints there. Wellbalanced and pleasant cask, smooth palate.

Tap at Spuyten Duyvil - it really does smell exactly like a nice dark-roast cup of coffee - very smooth, roasty, and dry - drier than any other coffee stout I’ve had, which makes it quite unique, and quite similar in flavor to the "brew" it is deriving its name from - not quite as good as Peche Mortel, but it really is quite close.

Dark amber color. Light malt aroma, a bit minty. Medium malty aroma, with a good hopping, partially aromatic, and a touch of myrth. Interesting.
