Description
Kleiburg is the beer of the Klei Monastery: a spiritual and hospitable place in the Amsterdam Bijlmer neighbourhood. We are a social enterprise and are inspired by traditional Belgian monastery beers and give it an innovative twist. This results in very own specific beers: always recognizable and at the same time surprising.
Hazy medium amber colour, fair frothy off-white head, mostly diminishing, light lacing. Aroma sweet malt, yeast, peach. Flavour medium sweet and light bitter, light acicidy in the background, malty, fruity. Sweetbitter f, earthy ninishotes, medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, mediocre blond.

Low-alcoholic beer, a ‘table beer’ indeed, but dubbed an ale since it is top-fermented contrary to the typical Belgian ‘tafelbier’. Thanks Craftmember for sharing. Eggshell-white, medium thick, mousy head lacing in shreds over a hazy, peach-tinged ‘old gold’ beer. Aroma very reminiscent of stale beer (like a pale lager poured the day before), sweat, old potatoes, cooked cotton cloth, old wrinkled apples, raw grains, minerals, soggy old bread. Restrainedly fruity onset with apple peel notes over a sourish edge, hinting at infection; lively carbonation, while this ‘dirty sour’ effect continues alongside a cereally, thinnish-bready malt middle, ending with soft hop bitterness and, very dominantly so, that ‘stale’ effect overtaking in the end. Not a bad idea in view of that low alcohol hype the Low Countries are in the middle of right now, but badly executed, this is clearly infected and not at all inviting.

2/III/19 - 33cl bottle @ Tim's Tremendous Taco Tasting, BB: III/2020 - (2019-337) Thanks to Vincent for sharing the bottle!
Clear blond to orange beer, huge creamy off-white head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: sorghum, smells like a dirty African lager, dusty, rotten potato, silver, very off. MF: very lively carbon, light body. Taste: very watery. Malty, sorghum, bit sourish, unpleasant, little grassy, some marijuana. Aftertaste: grains, hay, more rotten things, bit sourish, very unpleasant.

Ruikt als een saison met chocoladecake. Wat zoetige koek in de smaak. Prima dubbel noemen we zoiets

Thuis uit een flesje. Oranje van kleur, bijna geen schuim. Iets te zoet naar mijn smaak voor blond. Dit flesje was overigens 7,3%.

0.33 l bottle from 'Sterk Avondverkoop', best before September 2020. Almost clear, orangeish amber with a medium large, foamy, stable, off-white head. Sweetish, slightly grassy and a bit yeasty-spicy aroma of grains and some straw. Just slightly sweet, moderately bitter, fairly dry, a bit yeasty-spicy taste of straw, some clove and grains, followed by a short, gently bitter, very dry and slightly grassy finish. Thin body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Okay, not overly tasty.

330ml bottle. Cloudy, chestnut colour with ruby glimmer and average, fluffy, fairly lasting, moderately lasting, beige head. Slightly strange, strawy, wheaty and caramel malty aroma, a tangy touch of infection. Taste is minimally tart, dark and caramel malty, a tangy touch of gherkin and brine; maybe some pumpkin; minimally overcarbonated. I don't think everything is intentional here.
