Description
OWA beer was born in May 2006. It was born and designed for the best Belgium and Japanese fusion food experience. It is indeed a very good combination with SUSHI and YAKITORI (weet soy sauce). The brewery is located in the famous district of Uccle in Brussels, only 2kms from the Moeder Lambic in Saint Gilles. Leo Imai started to brew in December 2008 and in 2009 he made a kitchen laboratory in the brewery, and researched the best marriage with japanese food.

Bottle at the pre Bamberg tune up in the Sham, from Etre Gourmet, 23/01/14.Extremely dark mahogony brown with a moderate light tan head. Nose carries a lactic ring, metallic, light cocoa. Taste comprises tarte dark berry fruit, lactose, light dirt, yeast, chocolate. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close laced with berry fruit notes. So so stout.

Pre Bamberg bash tasting at Colin’s house with Mr Bois and James. Cheers to Colin. Hazy deep red - amber beer, good pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and crisp. Smooth and mellow dark malt, light tang. Touches of chocolate and cherry cola. Light finish. Slight Bock feel about this one.

Small whitish head, receding over clear copper beer; lazily bubbled. Bit sweetish nose, not unlike some Oriental desserts. Finishing in the sweetened Chapeau style De Troch often fancies. Much more sour than the nose prepared me for, with a lighlty bitterish, expressly woody background. Way better than the dreaded sweetener’ nose. Fruity too, but impossible to say what - though unripe plums or quetches might come near. Even a bit acidburn, faintly agressive, highly attenuated. Carbonation more prominent than the visual. Clashing impressions, but in the end, I gladly finished the bottle!

Foam gone in an eyeblink; hazy orange-ochre, well-carbonated beer. Fruity nose, with something from the beauty shop. Citrus, melon, wood and faint Brett. Dry, quite woody, lambic more in force, even with quite some horseblanket. Clear hint of citrussy acidity - no doubt the yuzu, but as that is unknown to me, can only compare. Sprizy, fully attenuated into light body. Tad of wheatslickness. Nice variant on the lambic theme.

Bottle courtesy of Kermis. Poured a slightly hazy medium orange with a thin white head. The aroma is light plum, earthy, zesty lemon citrus and a little vinous. The flavour is strong sour with a big smooth acid yeast palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation. Super sour but well controlled and very drinkable indeed.

Bottle courtesy of Kermis. Poured a clear medium amber with a broken bubbly white head. The aroma is big cinnamon and rich fruit. Smells rather like a wedding cake! The flavour is medium sour with a rich malt biscuit red berry fruit marzipan cinnamon palate. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. A truly unusual beer!
