Description
OWA beer was born in May 2006. It was born and designed for the best Belgium and Japanese fusion food experience. It is indeed a very good combination with SUSHI and YAKITORI (weet soy sauce). The brewery is located in the famous district of Uccle in Brussels, only 2kms from the Moeder Lambic in Saint Gilles. Leo Imai started to brew in December 2008 and in 2009 he made a kitchen laboratory in the brewery, and researched the best marriage with japanese food.

Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgie purchased June 2013 consumed at home Sunday 8th December 2013 Pours gold with a light haze, probably chill haze. A little bit of eggshell on the nose otherwise fairly straightforward Belgian ale nose. Some light fruitiness in the mouth, clean, light yeasty, good but very safe a clinical interpretation of the style, consistent, good. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov13 3.3

Bottle #279 of 1000 courtesy of me, thank me very much! Nearly clear golden color, thick white head. Aroma of dusty cherry skins, meadow flowers. Taste is funky, dusty, sour barnyards, but in a delicate floral way. Fantastic. Remins me vaguely of the floral perfumy characteristics of the J & J Roze, but with less complexity.

THX! to & courtesy of Kraddel. 375 ml. bottle – looks like they switched formats now – sampled on the train. 2013 Edition. I have never tried Yuzu (the fruit) but it does seem like a pretty interesting fruit. Nose carries lots of funk, candied lemons, lots of lemon peel, lots of lambic funk, horseblanket but not much sourness. It smells of lemon peel sweet with a light tang but doesn’t feel sweetened in any way. Taste is lightly tart lemon (really no sour lemon here), lots of lemon peel, touch candied lemon, ginger, more peel, nice funk, faint wood, light tang,… Feels like a hybrid between lemonade & lambic in a good way because all the lemonade-characters seem to be coming from the fruit & it never feels sweetened or anything. Easy drinking, less carbonated lemonade body. Very interesting beer & one of most unusual sours I have had (in a good way). Great stuff here. Apparently the 2012 Version was sourer but try finding that one.

Tasting at Bruce’s Pad. Thanks to Bruce for this one. Cloudy gold beer with a small pale cream coloured head. Dry crisp palate. Dry bitter nuts! Touches of sour fruits and gueuzey wood. Little lemon before the dry finish. Hate this bitter nut taste. Hard work for me but everyone else liked it!

Tasting at Bruce’s Pad. Hazy gold beer with a small cream coloured head. Somewhat of a dusty tasting start. Light woody sourness contrasts with and stands apart from sweet floral cherry blossom. Then the dusty taste comes back. Light crisp finish. A very interesting beer but also a bit messy.

Bottle, big thanks to the Bruce. It pours hazy golden-orange with a small white head. The nose is wood, earth, hay, floral, funky, mild sweetness, plum skin, red grape, light vanilla and toasty coconut. The taste is crisp, sherbet, red grape skin, sour plum skin, wood, floral, lemon sherbet, some bitterness, grass and pinenut (well-put Ken) with a dry, tart finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Great tartness without being particularly acidic. Interesting, good depth and very tasty.

Bottle, big thanks to the Deeblo. It pours golden orange with a small white head. The nose is floral (particularly rose), wood, light sherbet, parma violets, cherry blossom and some musty funk in the background. The taste is crisp, floral, sherbet, damp wood, lemon, nice tartness, mild acidity, touch of chalk, lemon sherbet and green apple with a dry, tart finish. Medium body and fine, crisp carbonation. Not to everyone’s taste, but I really enjoyed this.
