Description
OWA beer was born in May 2006. It was born and designed for the best Belgium and Japanese fusion food experience. It is indeed a very good combination with SUSHI and YAKITORI (weet soy sauce). The brewery is located in the famous district of Uccle in Brussels, only 2kms from the Moeder Lambic in Saint Gilles. Leo Imai started to brew in December 2008 and in 2009 he made a kitchen laboratory in the brewery, and researched the best marriage with japanese food.

33cl Bottle from De Hopduvel, Gent. Clear golden colour, white head. Aroma is light fruity, esters, grain, cheap lager-like. Flavour is grainy, light sweet, fruity, esters, more grain, light skunk, bitter grainy finish. Light-bodied, over-carbonated. Not very nice imo.

“Brewed by a Japanese brewer in Belgium” says my bottle – I believe that he recently went back to Japan. Does this brewery / enterprise still exist actually? First contract brewed @ De La Senne (brilliant) followed by De Ranke (brilliant), St. Feuillien (very to good) then Van Den Bossche (okayish) so not the best evolution as far as I am concerned. I suppose the latter were more willing and had more to gain by taking contract brewing assignments. Label easily fools you into thinking that it is a Japanese beer upon sight which is the point if I am not mistaken. This is mainly meant to be sold at Japanese restaurants – odd but apparently profitable concept. A similar concept appears to be followed by Iki beer made by De Proef. Pours amber orange with a very patchy white head. Smells fruity, sweet herbal, some grass, sweet malts and touch of sweet malts and candy sugar. Taste is sweet herbal, dried orange peel, toffee, lightly metallic, grassy hops, sweet tea, ginseng, toffee, light candy sugar, nice hops. Carb. Is a bit soda-like. And the ginseng, tea & metals bit makes it come across a bit cheap but still this is actually quite enjoyable. Nice. (33 cl. bottle @ home. From Willems. BBF 22/09/2013)

Bottled (thanks Kim!). Amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is toffee, some mild yeast, rice and even a slight bit of alcohol sweetness. Flavour is fruity, mild rice, some sweet nectary and honeylike notes as well. A bit thin.

seems like i have the first rating strangely enough ? didnt realize this was as rare as it seems to be... had it at horeca expo (ghent) . al others lambics were out, and this was one of the last glasses of the lemon edition ( wich this is ) pours light blonde / hazy . no foam tastes sourness ( yet not extreme) of the lambic, combined with the sourness of the lemon. the outcome is kinda what you’d expect. its not extreme sour ( not the likes of hanssens or such) and its not waawing. but for a small , ( i also think beginning) brewerie like this, this is actualy VERY nice done !

33cl bottle shared by Dutchdrebus. Clear ruby red color with a light brown head that diminishes fairly quickly. Smell is weird, a mix of glue, paint and wine, but somehow it’s not that bad. Taste malts, slightly apple, slightly alcohol, a champagne-like sweetness. I actually like the combination. Medium a bit tingling carbonation and a decent body. A lot better than expected.

Thick, beige head over deep brown to black beer. Spicy-sourish nose, sourness reminding me of rhubarb. Roasted, too, of course. Roasted, especially retronasal with a warming backthroat. The initial taste, however, is watery sweet-sourish, with some lactic acid. Roasted, but with precious little bitterness. After some time, it gains some Oud Bruin reminiscences; Feels very carbonated and very thin bodywise (I have trouble believing the 8% ABV). Seems to present some sulphur (H²S) in the aftertaste. Weird, very weird.

Golden colour, small white head, light floaties. Quite tart aroma, fresh fruity, lemon, mint and perfume. Sour, light sweet flavour, fruity, apricot, light plum. Tart fruity finish, prunes and overripe fruits.
Quite nice actually.

75 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBSG 2012 // bottle nr. 55/100 // 2 yr. old lambic aged for 1 yr. with Japanese prunes in Japan & shipped back // mainly sold apparently in Japanese restaurants and a handful of Japanese specialty stores // no idea what the lambic used is, Oud Beersel is my best guess but no guarantee that is for sure // murky apricot, no head // smell is sweet with some perfume, despite the bottle saying that this uses no perfume like lambic’s usually do. this smells more like apricots and peaches than plums to me // sweet plums, peach, apricot blend, sweet lemon, sweeter lambic, light sourness in the back, lemon, fruity, quite and certainly some perfume // mellow easy body, not much carb. // sweet & fruity but quite fun // may need more time but don’t think I will pick up one more given the price I have 100 % confirmation that the lambic used came from De Troch.
