Bottle at level 42. It pours rich gold with a thick white head. The aroma is fresh, sweet, grainy, juicy, apricot, stewed peach, tinned fruits and lemon poppy seed cake. The taste is crisp, bitter, grassy, lemon peel, soapy, waxy, minerals and pine needles with a dry, citrusy finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Not bad.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark blk/brn with a large tan head. Aroma is chocolate bourbon. Full bodied. Flavor is chocolate, bourbon, then burnt malt (smooth), then earthy chocolate. I think coffee is eclipsed by the bourbon. Which isn’t super strong. Delicious.
Earlier Rating: 11/14/2013 Total Score: 3.9
Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours black with a dark tan head. Bourbon aroma. med + or full bodied. Flavor is very bourbon/vanilla with dark malt, and I think coffee. Maybe chocolate. Smooth. Think there’s no heat. Oak comes along after awhile. It’s malty, but not seemingly undry. Very nice.

Bomber to glass. Black with full brown head. Overt roastiness with slight chocolate backing. Taste is coffee and chocolate. Deep roast leads to a high bitterness. Kind of like drinking a dark roast, cold pressed coffee. Not terribly complex, but nice enough.
