Pours amber with a small quickly fading head.Nose shows grainy malt with a hint of spicy hops. Very light on.Flavours show some grainy malt with slight sweetness before a very dry metallic bitter finish (POR?).Body feels very watery, carbonation is pretty high.

Bottle. Poured a slightly hazy straw with no head. Aroma was slightly hoppy and sweetish. Light body and carbonation. Flavour was thin and lemony with a slight, but unpleasantly harsh, bitter finish. Not good, but slips down cold.

330 ml bottle. Golden body with a white head. Aroma is malt and grain with a hint of citric hops. Flavor is light malt, apple fruity and a bit too sweet, almost like sweet cider kind of sweetness. Not much bitter, thin body and short finish. Fooled by the name.

From a 375ml bottle on 10/7/2010. The label says this is a wheat beer, though I note its characterised as a premium lager here. The latter seems more accurate. Has a very slight floral citrus aroma, with a modest sweet citrus (lemon) flavour and just a touch of hops. Quite pedestrian, and possibly the least wheaty wheat beer I’ve come across.

Pours gold with a small sudsy head.Aroma is faint with grainy malt and subtle grassy hops. Grainy malt is quite dirty really.Flavours include a fair bit of malt surprisingly, slight grainy, somewhat bready. Faint grassy hops also show, finishing with a restrained bitterness.Too much carbonation. Much too much. Ridiculous.

Bottled in Sydney Airport. A golden beer with a lazing white head. The aroma has notes of grain and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, grain, and straw, leading to a lightly bitter finish. A bit boring.

It’s been 15 years since I had this: when young and poor I drank it all the time as it was the same price as VB and other truly awful beers. Then they priced it alongside decent Euro lagers and I stopped. Anyway: Bottle. Pours gold, modest white head. Some lacing. Mild aroma of malt, hay and citrus. Moderately sweet malts with decent bitterness for the style. Dry, vaguely citric finish with some salt. Still better than other Australian macros and still an OK beer on a hot night.

2015 side-by-side rates: Cascade Stout 5.8, 27.5 ibu Dark brown with only slight red-purple highlights under light. Aroma is chocolatey, slight fruitiness, bit of molasses. Light chocolatey character, demerara dark sugars, just a light fruitiness. 4 7 6 3 14

Cascade Export Stout 5.8 Dark brown with only slight red-purple highlights under light. aroma is chocolatey, fudgey, bit if molasses but not as much fruitiness. Chocolatey but arguably sweeter, earthier, has a fuller body. 4 7 7 4 15

2010 rate: @ Southern Barbarian, Shanghai. Very dark brown colour with a thin head. Chewy, rich, fruity, treacly aroma. Chocolatey palate. Fairly full body. Soft and smooth. Moderate sweetness. Complex fudgey brew. Gets a little bit thin at the end. Pretty good beer that blurs the stout/foreign stout line.
