330 ml. bottle. 2017 Vintage. Bottle #1797 of 2440. Aged in 3 Years Belgian Owl Barrels (sic.) Yeah that is weirdly worded. Belgian Blond Strong Ale Aged in Belgian Whisky barrels of the by bar mos t notable distiller of the very few in Belgium. Lienne is a still rather new Wallonian brewery that takes inspiration from the craft beer movement unlike far too many Wallonian breweries and tries to do something else. Results vary but improvement & care seems to be the order of the day. Clear golden beer, fine rising bubbles, quite a solid vaguely off-white head, creamy. Nose is weird overly cooked vegetables with strong BE esters oddly mixed with vanilla boozy whisky sweetness, almost seems to indicate that they went for the lesser batch on barrels rout or something else lesser transpired, total warning. Taste is sadly disappointing as well, cooked vegetables, cabbages, green apple, finish is cheap watery whisky and banana,… Carbonation is too soft, makes it seem a bit watery. Whatever transpired here, base beer seems far too poor and the barrel doesn’t help and the barrel doesn’t come across optimal, whisky feels weak and almost cheap dare I say. I was quite optimistic here & accepted the higher price point, the previous BA beer that I had from them was very neat “Lienne / Mi-Orge Mi-Houblon Série à L’Encre Noire - Batch #2 (Armagnac)”. This is below standard. Did I have a bad bottle given the previous ratings?

Good entry Belgian blonde but quite sharp and dry-hopping is not much. Needs to be cleaner. Bready. Average
