Description
Since 1975, Boon Brewery has been owned and run by Frank Boon, one of the pioneers of the authentic lambic and gueuze revival. But the first signs of the brewery date back to 1680, as a farm-brewery and distillery in the village of Lembeek. In 1860 Louis Paul bought the brewery to brew only lambic and faro. From 1875, he began bottling gueuze lambic. In 1898, Pierre Troch bought the brewery. But after the economic crisis of 1927, it came into the hands of Joseph De Vits. His son, Rene is renowned for the production of soft and fine gueuze lambic. As Rene De Vits had no children, he sold the brewery to Frank Boon.

Bottle from Raynville Superstore. It pours everywhere so slightly hazy blonde with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is bright, zingy, tangy, lemon, lime, grapefruit, gooseberry, white grape, sherbet, vinous, musty, funky, damp oak, barnyard and hay. The taste is crisp, dry, snappy, tart, puckering, dry white wine, gooseberry, lemon, lime sherbet, limequat, tangfastics, fizzy cola bottles, deep funk, barnyard, brett, must and a touch of tannin with a drying finish. Medium body and high, fluffy carbonation. Lovely depth of flavour. Nice balance and high quaffability.

The taste is crisp, dry, snappy, clean, some bitterness, pithy, zesty, lemon - lime, melon, pear, custard apple, bread, sponge cake, biscuit, custard creams, some warming spice and ginger with a drying, spicy finale. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Rounded and quaffable.

Bottle, three years before bbd. Pours clear mahogany, with a big creamy off white head. Aroma is lactic notes with hay, farmhouse, bretty notes of red apples and fruit peel, as well as nuts, kandi and caramel. Full body, with soft to average carbonation. Flavour is lactic notes with hay, farmhouse notes and light bretty apples, as well as sweet notes of nuts, kandi sugar and fruity minerals. Smooth and quaffable, but a tad too sweet.

Orange with a white head. Loads of sediment kicked up even with a careful pour and more than enough time resting to let it settle. Was an issue with all of this specific box set for some reason. But, other than not looking great, it doesn’t affect the beer so all is well. Big acidic notes with lemony citrus, funky rhymes, horse blanket, and some light oak. The finish has some soft fruity notes and is rather dry. This one doesn’t seem as coherent as the others, though it’s still a fine lambic.

Clear copper with an amber hue and a white head. The acidic notes are much stronger in 93 than some of the other mono blends. Not too much, but very present. Farmhouse, lemon, funk, oak, a bit of minerals. Medium bodied. Finishes with funk and acidity. This is a bit bolder in profile than others but still approachable and full of character.

Orange with minimal white head. Lightly funky throughout, yeast, old farmhouse, wool, acidic, there is a touch of apple, oak, a touch of cream. Medium bodied that I wish had just a touch more carbonation to help the notes pop a little more. Finish has acidity, oak, and bright citrus. It’s a very nice beer but not in the top-tier of these Vat releases, for me.

Deep golden amber with a white head. Lemony citrus, wood, light acidity, honey, a touch of funk. Finish has a slightly sour fruit profile with wood and comes in somewhat dry. A simple offering but a tasty one.

(Keg at Bruuveri, 20260731) The beer poured ruby red and clear. Its head was medium sized and pink. Aroma had cherries, wood and sweet fruitiness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were cherries, tartness, wood, sourness and bitterness. Aftertaste had wood, sourness and bitterness. All flavours I expected were there but all were very diluted, too.

Bottle, Thanks Eddan. Nicely sour with citrus, funk and oak. A refreshing one.

Aus der Flasche im 2026-07 getrunken. Diese trübe, goldene Gueuze hat ein leichtes Wein und Essig Aroma. Der Hefeeinfluss ist deutlich und leichte Eichenaromen sind auch zu entdecken. Sehr gut ausbalanciert. Toll für den Sommer!
