500ml bottle at 3.7%. Pours black with a large head. Aroma is smoky, oily roast, a touch of milk sweetness and varnish. Taste has a lot of bitter coffee, touch of blackberries in the finish. Good mouthfeel for the strength.

Cask/GD at the 14th Egham Beer Festival at the EUSC, 28/03/13. Hazed dark chestnut brown with a thin off white head. Nose is hops, rye, bitter tropical fruit notes, orange, sugars. Taste comprises hops, toffee, bitter orange, a certain sourness about this one, hint of grapefruit, sugars. Medium bodied with bite, soft carbonation. Decent but not really an IPA in my book, more like a hopped up ESB!

Craft Clerkenwell. Hazy dark amber beer - red - brown beer. Little pale tan head. Palate is light and slightly dry. Semi sweet malts with a mild dark character. Trace of toffee. Good red berry fruits. Mild orange - tangerine citric hop. Finishes semi dry with very mild minerals. Nice balance of darkish, malt, fruits and hops. Another fairly complex beer from this brewer.

Cask at the Earl of Essex - London. Pours lightly hazy, deep red-brown with a fine, foamy head. Some floral hops in the nose, toasted bread, pine. Medium to big sweet flavor with lots of sugary bread, sticky toasted pine, ripe orange and grapefruit, some berry preserves. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming to finish with more ripe fruits, lightly dried out berries, resinous pine, toasty grass, rich brown bread, touches of alcohol, mild dry caramel, a bit of earthy bitterness. Decent beer, but certainly not an IPA. I’d probably call it an ’amber ale’; it’s really like a jacked up ESB.

Euston Tap. Leighton got this I think! Cheers mate! Light haze on this gold beer, little white head. Light semi dry palate, crispy. Mild minerals. Nice generic citrus hops. Thin malt base. Finishes light and airy. Nice beer. 3.6

Bottle. Hazy amber beer, good off white head. Light crispy palate, semi dry. Light and bitterish orange pith, touch of lime, whisper of tropical fruits. Some floral character coming in before the finish. Everything is really well balanced, light but once again from this brewer, a good degree of complexity.
