Description
The Exchange is a new premium brewery and tasting room located in Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Old Town heritage district. Although the town is known as the heart of Ontario’s wine country, it is also the scene of a burgeoning craft-brewing industry. With brewing and agricultural roots that stretch back to the late 1700s, Niagara-on-the-Lake is the perfect home for The Exchange’s approach to brewing, which blends traditional and modern techniques and equipment.

We focus on making exceptional craft beers using only the highest quality ingredients, including local Niagara fruits. Our selection includes a range of American styles along with sour and funky Belgian-style beers and ales.

Cloudy-hazy golden-orange colour with a creamy-ish off-white head, good stay and some creamy-foamy lacing. The Brettanomyces are felt right away with the earthiness and sourness. Still, not crazy strong, as balanced with the witbier yeast and mild spices. The taste starts off sour and has good lingering. Here, being a little stronger, it kind of overtakes the witbier character. Wish this not happen. Still, a decent Brettbier.

Bottle: Poured a clear pale yellow color ale with a medium white foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of light fruity Brett notes with some cereal notes is enjoyable enough. Taste is a mix of residual sugar notes with some cereal, light wheat with some fruity Brett notes. Body is light with good carbonation. Enjoyable but lacking some complexity.

750ml bottle at Erik's. Pours a murky golden with a white head. Aroma is fruity with herbal notes. Taste is loads of barrel fermented fruits and vegetables. Interesting, but weird.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy golden orange with a medium white head. Aroma is quite funky and fragrant, with lots of tea, herbal and piney hops, and some funky wild yeast. Flavour is along the same lines, with funky wild yeast, tea, and subdued herbal hops. Barely any IIPA elements here, just a lot of tea and funk. Really good.

Hazy, cloudy, with a thin head. The aroma is just weird - that must be the scoby/kombucha, and there's some herbal hop nose. On the palate, hops, kombucha tartness, a fair bit of malt. Ok, definitely weird. Not 100% sure about this, but there is an element that's like hoppy sour, but the kombucha accent is definitely bizarre. I don't hate this, but I'm not sure I want an entire bottle, either.

Bottle - Funky and some sulphur. Cloudy gold with a rich white head. Tropical fruit, touch of sourness and a bit of funk. Weirdly good, but would not have guessed double IPA.

Dark brown. Bubbly head. Has a fairly assertive coffee note - the cold brew is pretty powerful. There's some mellow toastiness to the aroma as well. On the palate, toasty and with a touch of chocolate. Dominant coffee. Nice stout.

Tasting at Oakes' Manor; 8.7% ABV
Black colour, tan thick head. Quite good roasted malt base, prominent coffee presence, lean body, very low sugar level, a bit of cardboard and dirt too.
Good.
