Description
Salopian Brewery first brewed in Shrewsbury in 1995. Founded by Martin Barry on the site of the old Onions Dairy and like many breweries the kit we first brewed on was small and rudimentary at only two barrels. Brewing ceased in late 1997 due to financial problems. Our chairman Wilf Nelson joined the brewery in 1998 – Wilf coming on board gave the brewery much needed stability and vision to move to forward and brewing recommenced in January 1998.

Slowly, as cash flow permitted, we upgraded our brewing kit and replaced rusty dented vans with slightly less rusty dented vans. It was the onset of brewing a more eclectic range of cask ale, whilst embracing both traditional styles and those of our locality. 2014 saw the brewery make its final move – we hope! – to the village of Hadnall on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.

Draught
Very dark ruby, not much head. Burnt malty, slight sweet nose. Light, burnt, roasted, carbonated. A bit chocolaty aftertaste. Dunkel-like porter. Drinkable but easy to forget.

Cask handpull at Fly in the Loaf, Liverpool. Pale copper, with creamy head. More caramel on this and bitter finish. Hops are a bit earthy. Fruit is ok if understated. Easy drinking bitter

Cask handpull at Ship & Mitre, Liverpool. Golden, thin white head. Quite a delightful blonde, summery, citrus, hoppy beer, with a bit of alcool sweetness and a juicy feel. Really nice hoppy aroma. Fruit on the end is excellent

[Cask at Volunteers Arms, GBBF 2005] A hazy orange beer with a white head. Both the aroma and flavor are malty with notes of caramel. Quite boring.

Gravity cask at Ashford Rugby Club. Orange, amber colour with bubbly white head. Not sure what to make of this. Some citrus and banana, with more banana on palate. Spicey finish, not a lot of hop except on end.

Cask at County Hotel JDW Ashford Bit of an oddity, but I like the lemon flavour that gives it a refreshing taste on a hot day. Golden yellowin colour with some herbaceous hops and that hint of lemon. Quite creamy

[Bottle conditioned] A red-brown beer with a disappearing light brown head. The aroma is roasted malty with notes of berries, and so is the flavor.
