Description
Our beers are made of passion and knowledge, culture and innovation, memories and visions of endless worlds real and futuristic.
Giovanni Campari founded Birrificio del Ducato together with two other partners. Giovanni is still the brewmaster of the brewery, which officially began the production of craft beer on March 27th 2007 in Roncole Verdi, Busseto (PR). The historic production site was transformed into Sour Brewery in 2015, when we transferred the main brewery to the new headquarters in Soragna (PR). Here we produce the main beer lines, through a fully automated system, which includes advanced PLC controls and centrifugal separator. The brewery currently has a 60-hl 5-vessel brewhouse and a total cellar capacity of 1200 hl.
At the end of 2016 Duvel Moortgat acquired 35% of the shares of the brewery. In 2018 Duvel Moortgat acquired 70% of the brewery’s shares, investing its resources in a new laboratory and in a new bottling line.

Bottle at home. Aroma of pale malt, lemony fruits, yeasty notes, slight spicy notes. Flavour is moderately bitter. This beer lacks distinct characteristics, it’s drinkable but not memorable.

Bottle at home. Aroma of roast, coffee, citrus, weak tropical fruits, hint of chocolate, hoppy notes. Flavour is light sweet and moderately bitter. Finish is dry. Enjoyable if a bit light Black IPA.

Bottle at home. Aroma of sweet malt, lots of smoke, peat, hint of cocoa. Flavour is medium sweet. Body is light to medium. Seems a bit overcarbonated. An acceptable Smoked Porter, but I was hoping for more refinement.

Bottle at home. Aroma of light fruits, some citrus, big floral notes, peppery Saison yeast, spicy notes, a bit soapy. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and lightly tart with a light to moderate bitter finish. Body is light to medium, a bit overcarbonated. Not very hoppy for a "hoppy Saison". Mostly peppery and yeasty. Decent.

Bottle at home. Aroma is caramel malt, toffee, some yeast, fruity notes, biscuit, some floral hops. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Body is medium. Sweeter and more malt-forward than I’d hoped, but certainly an agreeable easy beer.

(Bottle) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with dark chocolate, prunes, coffee, vanilla, liquorice, herbs (anise), whisky and oak wood. Malty, roasted, sweetish taste with notes of chocolate, prunes, coffee, tobacco, vanilla, liquorice, oak wood and a mild spicy cacao bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, quite sweet. A bit sweet and not overly complex, but quite rich and tasty. Nice one.

Pours a quite hazy pale golden, average sized white head, good retention and nice lacing. Average intensity in the aroma: citric fruitiness upfront (lemon/lime, grapefruit, maybe a hint of tangerine), a quite vivid piney backbone, perhaps a lightly perceptible crackery malts base. Quite good freshness in a simple, clean aroma. Taste notes follow the aroma, with good enough intensity and so/so definition. Medium sweetness and medium bitterness; balanced, semi-neutral mouth, a slightly unpleasant sweetish reminiscence in the aftertaste that also has a light (and again not totally pleasant) earthy feel. Medium body, average carbonation; a not too fine, slightly coarse carbonation though the overall mouthfeel is still decent. Strikingly similar to their lower abv 'freeride', which i had a few months ago and remember quite well, just a bit more intense obviously. I've pretty much copied that review with a few corrections and i will just copy-paste the overall evaluation here: a very basic ipa, and not so good at that, mediocre but still acceptable.
